Drew Brees throwing 'strikes' for Saints
 

METAIRIE, La. – New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been getting the football in the right hands this year. His touchdown-to-interception ratio (33 to 8) is the best of his 13-year career.

Brees has thrown only one of those interceptions during the past five games. And according to ESPN Stats & Information, Brees’ 122 touchdown passes since the start of the 2011 season are tied for the most in NFL history over any three-year stretch. He’s tied with himself (from 2010-12) and Dan Marino (1984-86) – though Brees will obviously set a new mark in the weeks to come.

When someone compared Brees’ TD-to-interception ratio Wednesday to a pitcher’s strikeout-to-walk ratio, Brees said, “We like to throw strikes.”

Brees is on pace for 41 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year – which would be his lowest interception total since joining the Saints in 2006.

He didn’t throw any during the past two games against Carolina or Seattle (two of the NFL’s leaders in that category). And he’s hoping to keep that trend going at St. Louis this Sunday.

“I’m just trying to be as efficient as I can be,” Brees said of his current interception drought. “I try to be very cognizant of that, understanding the value of protecting the football. If you look at us statistically, we’re undefeated when we don’t turn the ball over. Just that stat along will help you win just about every game, and so I think our whole team has done a very good job of it offensively. I think we make a big emphasis of it throughout the week. I personally understand the importance of it.”

he might not be throwing picks, but I am not sure 'strikes' is accurate
he has been 12-18 inches behind quite a bit this year- our better receivers have adjusted, younger have not

Yep, the stats may disagree, but I think its one of the worst years he's had throwing the ball since he's been here. Of course even so its still better than all but 3 or 4 QB's playing today.

We turned the ball over 3 times against the 49ers. We still won. That was shocking.

Great point. His floor is so high so even when he is playing "bad" he is better than most.

most teams would drool over such a terrible season drew is having.

Where do we stand as far as fumbles go? Seems like we hardly ever fumble.

(edit) Just looked it up. Only two teams have less fumbles than us. We have 11 while Carolina and the Colts have each have 10.
