Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Perhaps second only to the quarterback position, the tight end has become the best weapon on the football field in today's NFL offense. Some would argue for the benefit of a bruising running back or field-stretching receiver, but the most bang-for-the-buck comes from the big guy on the end of the line of scrimmage.
The right kind of player in that role can create the worst mismatches on the field at any given time. And the more creative coordinators can take a truly, talented tight end and use him at any position on the offensive side of the ball. Just look at what Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jason Whitten, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham have done to opposing defenses in their careers. While Gonzalez and Gates were two of the first truly weaponized tight ends in the league, Gronkowski and Graham have become the faces of the new NFL. They are the cream of the crop at the most dominant position on offense. With Gronkowski out with a season ending (and possibly career altering) injury, Graham is the top-dog now. He is poised to take over as the league's premier game-changer. Few can do what he is able to do. And his services will be highly sought-after when the 2013 season closes. Here are the best possibilities for utilizing his immense talent. 5. Atlanta Falcons This will probably be the last we see of the great Tony Gonzalez. It has been a great ride, but he will ride off into the sunset, leaving a huge void... one that would perfectly suit Graham. He would add a potent dimension to the Falcons' attack and might help to revive Matty Ice. 4. Buffalo Bills E. J. Manuel is going to need all the help he can get transitioning to his sophomore season. A big, fast, reliable target is just the ticket. This team needs a big boost if they want to have a shot at the perennial, division-leading Patriots. 3. Houston Texans They need a lot of things, but tight end is a glaring need. To complement their two outstanding wide receivers (Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins), a high-caliber tight end like Jimmy Graham would go a long way toward making this one of the most explosive passing attacks in the league... settling on the QB of the future would help. too. 2. Minnesota Vikings This is another team that needs a lot of things, but a huge talent like Graham would make a huge difference. He would be a great starter for rebuilding the team around and they play in a dome. 1. New England Patriots Talk about a team that knows how to build and sustain success, but with the loss of Aaron Hernandez in the offseason, and another catastrophic injury to cloud the future of Rob Gronkowski, a virtual clone of their statistical production is a smart move. This might even be a no-brainer. Whether Gronk returns to form eventually or not, having the most-talented TE on the roster with Tom Brady covers a multitude of deficiencies. I could name every team in the NFL as potential landing spots for such a talented tight end; it is the most important position after the QB as far as production is concerned, especially when the extra blocker is needed. Jimmy Graham fulfills everything an OC could want... maybe more. If the Saints are crazy enough to let him walk away, any team would be equally crazy to not pay him whatever he asks. Graham's choice just may hinge on where the best potential for a ring lies. Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014 |

Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
We have reaped the cap benefit of his rookie contract for 4 years now. He makes $540,000, roughly SEVEN percent of what Brees makes.
Franchised as a WR, he would net $10.3 mil, as a TE, $6.1 mil What would you say we owe Jimmy in back wages? Time for Brees to give back, Loomis to work his cap magic, and Jimmy to get paid. I see us cutting the dead money on IR and maxing him out |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Does this idiot even know what a franchise tag is? I wouldn't be surprised if this guy wrote an article titled "Top 5 Landing Spots for Drew Brees In 2012"
|
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
LOL, talk about a waste of time and energy writing that piece.
With Vilma, Smith and Harper gone next year and Brees converting his salary to signing bonus the Saints will be well enough under the cap to franchise Jimmy even at the WR level. Plus the cap is supposedly going up by 3 or 4 million. Every year we see these pieces about how x team is going to be waaaay over the cap and can't afford their players and then we consistently see teams keeping just about anybody they really want to. |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Why is this here?
|
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Jimmy will get a new shiny contract wit some serious cash in it. A nice signing bonus and then probably backloaded to start things off. Then in coming years the money will be re-distributed and Jimmy will be a happy man.

I posted a reply pointing out that those teams were in the AFC and the Saints would never face them in the playoffs, the 'writer' sent me a reply saying that is what the Super Bowl is for!! Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
The guy is a hack job and a Self Proclaimed Patriots fan.
Doug Tozier's Archive on Football Nation http://c.fn.fncdn.com/images/userpho...836/4ZTsc2.JPG How in the phuck are the Patriots #1 on his list, Gronks contract is through 2019 and the patriots are the team that normally doesn't pay top dollar for players... Much less high prices redundancy at the TE position. Three of the teams on the list do not have QBs worth mentioning and Atlanta is a complete mess. Top landing Spot for Jimmy... New Orleans. |

Maybe it is time we start shooting the messengers.:p

Top 5
1. Saints 2. Saints 3. Saints 4. Saints 5. Saints Even if it has to be the franchise tag, he's not going anywhere next season. Zero chance. Nada. Nil. Ain't happening. There's a better chance that hell freezes over, pigs flying, and me hitting the Mega Millions jackpot tonight. |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
He's not going anywhere. Bree's will restructure to keep him and help buy a decent offensive line to protect him or he won't see the end of his contract. He's already said he never wants to play for any qb but Bree's and will retire when Bree's does. Hopefully all that money being thrown his way won't sway him. God I would hate to see him in a Falcons uni.

2. NEW ORLEANS 3. NEW ORLEANS 4. NEW ORLEANS 5. NEW ORLEANS What a dumb question! |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
It's going to get complicated. The tea leaves say he will stay put, I think we all agree on that but there is still a lot of time left and a lot can happen. It's a sham article without question, putting the cart way before the horse but in terms of franchise tag yay or nay, classification TE/WR, I think there is some wiggle room to have a serious discussion.

Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Isn't Jimmy the one that made a comment along the lines of,
I'll be playing football as long as Drew Brees, and the day he quits is the day I retire. But $$ talks and bull**** walks, so.... |

Lets be honest if the front office didnt think they could clear the cap space for him they would mostly likely have took the hit and traded him.
What would you be looking at two 1st's or a 1st and 2nd |

talking heads get paid to write, broadcast and spew whatever drivel they can get paid for.
the trick is not to take them seriously. |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
I remember Jimmy saying he would retire when Brees is done playing ball because he doesn't want anyone else throwing to him...
We will see how committed he is come negotiation time but I think he will be fair. |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
I knew it was lying around that ol' internet somewhere...
“I told Drew that whenever he decides to retire, I’m going to retire,’’ Graham said. “I’ll never play with another quarterback. I’m really serious about that.’’ Not saying I believe him... but he did say it. Just sayin' |

Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
I think it's extremely possible that Drew Brees went to Carl Nicks in 2010 or 2011, and said "bro, keep blocking for me, and I will make you the highest paid guard in the league, just watch" and then he and his agent made sure they gummed up the situation with the franchise tag, so that Brees would get the tag instead of Nicks, and Nicks could leave and get his payday somewhere else (instead of being second fiddle to Jahri Evans who already had the fat contract here at guard for the Saints, so they could never have afforded to keep Nicks anyway).
So then Nicks gives Drew a big bear hug when he breaks the passing record, and Nicks leads the Who Dat chant in the Dome in the Detroit playoff game? Why Nicks gets picked to lead the chant? Because in the locker room, they all knew it was his last time in the Dome. And it's extremely possible that Drew said to Jimmy late last year or at the beginning of this year, "bro, you saw me play through my first Saints contract and get a big payday? How would you like to be a top 5 receiver in the NFL, how does that sound? Stick with me kid and I take you there, just keep catching balls" and then he has been feeding the ball to Jimmy ever since, running up his stats and giving him TDs...knowing that when the time comes the old players' salaries will come off the books, Drew will restructure a bit, and Jimmy will get his payday and STAY with the Saints. I think it's extremely possible that Drew has been working behind the scenes and engineering all kinds of things with this team and Loomis, whether it's bringing Sproles here or deciding which receivers to keep, which offensive players to let go. You don't think Drew and these guys ever talk about this stuff, in private? |
Re: Top 5 Landing Spots for Jimmy Graham In 2014
Honestly, I don't believe Graham is head and shoulders better than the rest of the tightends in the league, he just gets the attention that makes it that way. I mean a lot of the QBs do not even treat their tightends like the number 1 weapon which is why they are not doing what Graham is. Gresham is good, Housler is, Camerson, Thomas, Fauria, G Graham, Rudolph, Myers, Ertz, Z Miller, Cook, Reed. The difference is Brees is a good qb and targets Graham and the rest of those qbs either do not target theirs or are not good. Graham would do nothing but be a cap hit for a team who could use their money on other needs if he were not to stay. Also, injuries happen as a result of inconsistency and/or not getting enough balls thrown to. Gronk is exception as he just seems to always get hurt.
