We need to win on the road

If we lose next week, I will not be upset. I want to see how we would do in Philadelphia or Detroit because if we lose to them then that is truly sad because do we have any business in the sb if we cannot beat them on the road. All the recent sb winners have won on the road. Philadelphia and Detroit are not what SF was. I just believe that if we are motivated we can win regardless of where we are as long as it isnt in SF. We have already been to Seattle and they are going to use their last game as a crutch against us. That is how if we show up and capitalize on our mistakes they will be in for a surprise. The colts were a dome team and was able to win in Baltimore in the playoffs in 06. We can win on the road in a cold place if we try. But teams that get written off before the playoffs even start and ones that are elite mind you have been the ones in recent memory to take the whole thing.

Re: We need to win on the road

On the road in the snow, we need 1) a run game, 2) a defense and 3) no turnovers. Today, there wasn't any snow, defense wasn't horrible but could have played better, at 61 yards -- there was no run game, and we had 3 turnovers. .5 out of 3 won't get the job done.

Re: We need to win on the road

Chances of a visiting team winning are still low regardless. 58.8% of the time the home team wins. Things look bad for us on the road but if we manage to win the next two we are actually par for the course.

If we do it though announcers will still say we struggle on the road because that's what everyone else will be saying.:handguns:

Before today's game, the Saints were .500 on the road. When we beat the kittens we will be back to .500

Don't see how we are going to win against the Panthers having watched that poor performance at the Rams. Their crowd noise wasn't even a factor in this game!

Hopefully we will beat the Bucs and get a wild card, but thats about as good as it gets. How things can change, we looked so good earlier in the season.

So, dismantling the Panthers last week was a fluke, then. What about the when the Panther's lose? Is that just a fluke too?

We are at least as good as the Panthers, you know how you can tell?

I don't buy the road thing -- except possibly in Seattle. We will figure this out. If not, we aren't a great team -- just a good team. And frankly, I think we want another party with the Lombardi in Drew's career.

We always play exceptionally well at home.
I think we just play up/down to our competition on the road. On the road, we beat Chicago, and we should've beat NE. Both of those teams are leaps and bounds better than the Jets and Rams.
We were just bad vs Seattle that Monday night, but I think it would be a much closer game if we played them again.

Besides the Seattle game, when we have played good teams on the road, we have played well. If we play a bad team on the road, we play bad.

I expect the Carolina game this week to be a pretty close one. I don't think we'll blow them out like we did at the Dome, but I still think we're very capable of winning. :bng:

well if we want to talk about a super bowl they must win the big one on the road other wise it is a waste of time. none bigger to date than next sunday

the super bowl aint going to be played in the dome.

Next Sunday is the difference between the #2 seed and the #5 seed (at best)

next Sunday is the difference of one done. if we can not win on the road it will be a short playoff season. on the bright side we get a better pick in the draft

Re: We need to win on the road

It's not just that the Saints "can't win on the road" (although right now it seems they can't). It's that THIS YEAR, the Saints aren't even scary or intimidating on the road -- absolutely no one is afraid to have them come into their house. They're averaging 18 ppg on the road, which is pretty mediocre, and that probably went down last night. Even the most average team (the Rams, Jets) can usually score more than 18 points at home. For a good playoff caliber team, it's a chance to feast. Not good.

W. Kovacs 12-16-2013 07:48 AM

Re: We need to win on the road

I really don't get it. How in the world is there SUCH a disparity between this team at home and on the road? I understand Home Field Advantage but we are just pathetic away from the dome. I don't get it.

The old formula of "win at home, split on the road" should be enough to win your division. We had a great chance at that but blew it by losing to bad teams on the road, namely the Jets and Rams. And we haven't just lost, we've looked AWFUL.

We can still do it with a win over the Panthers but if we can't beat the freaking Rams on the road a week after they lost by, what, 30 points or something? I don't like our chances.

Guilty as charged, well except the smoking fairy part.

I've heard numerous times that great teams strive to win their home games and split on the road.

We're exactly on pace for that.

For 31 teams 8 & 0 at home and 4 & 4 on the road is a great year, but if its the Saints its a bad year. wth We have been in 1st place in our division since week 1, I am looking forward to them remaining there in 6 days and finishing 12-4.

Re: We need to win on the road

There is such a huge difference in this team on the road, and two of those road losses have been beat downs. That is why the road losses get blown up into this "can't win on the road" belief.
Dropping out of the #2 seed will be aweful because then they will all be on the road. The Carolina game has just become the biggest of the season, a lot like the seattle game was, let's hope we play better this time.

Look, I hope I am wrong, I hung my head and held back the tears, we are not a playoff caliber team.

I can't fight this feeling anymore.
I won't say it out loud for the fear it maybe the truth.

When your diehards start to question and feel abandoned...where do you find the courage to start to believe again.

This weekend was a sucker punch in the gut.

C'mon people! The Saints stunk up the joint a couple games! It's not like we haven't seem them do it before.

We WILL win out, beat whatever team has the misfortune of having to play us in the Thunderdome and then go pluck a bird!!

Look, I get what you are trying to say, to make yourself feel better. But let me ask you this -- have the Patriots been BLOWN OUT on the road, by anybody, this year? By anybody? Have they been embarrassed, been punched in the mouth, or been blatantly outcoached?

I'll answer that. They haven't lost a game by any more than 7 points and one of them was very close in overtime. They've been IN every single one of them, which means they are COMPETITIVE on the road. I hate to burst your bubble, but the Saints, there's just nothing intimidating or scary about them on the road, this year. They are very average on the road, very beatable, and teams are not afraid of them. For good reason.

I saw the game and they didnt try to run enough. Brees kept throwing where he shouldnt have. He takes too many chances and against a team like that he gets burned. You don't get big yards unless you are committed to the run. Our backs are not used to getting a large amount of carries. I was on the chat saying we needed to run the ball. And I know Jenkins was getting away with non calls and stuff but we should be used to this by now. We used to be good on the road in the reg season I don't know what happened to that.

Those 3 wins two are against division rivals who we have pushed around for some time now. the other one was a road game against a team who's defense took a step back and it was week 5 not in the cold. And the bears do not possess the defense the rams or sehawks do atm. Nor is Cutler in Brady's league either.

But we lost all four road games against the two divisions we played between jets, pats, seahawks, and rams.

If we sweep Carolina, I hope we don't play them in the playoffs. because if they were to knock off Seattle they would get the "hot" label and the one playing off of rematches and would give us a hard time even at home. I'm going to hope they lose in the wild card round. Then we'll need SF, Philadelphia, or Detroit to go to Seattle to win or we need to face our fears head on. Dallas is the truest lock to lose in Seattle.

If we get the 2 seed, Carolina (6 seed) would probably have to defeat the Bores in Chicago. We all know how tough that is.

I'm sticking with my 11-5 season but I think we beat the Panthers on their field but I think that we play Tampa soft. My question is if we beat Carolina and lose to Tampa what would the seed order be?

Beat Carolina and we clinch the 2 seed. The Tampa game won't mean a thing.

Agreed…..Carolina will be close, but I see us righting the ship. Coach P's post game interview was scary. I think we'll be ready. You have to almost throw out the Seattle game, it's just a nasty, difficult task for any team to play well there, period. Throw out the flukes, like Rainys performance up there, give the chickens a chance to prepare w/ an off week and its as close to the 7th level of Hell as it gets.

And if the Saints were 7-0 on the road and 3-4 at home some of you would still be pissing and moaning!

The Saints don't get any style points, or extra draft picks if they win road games by 20+ points.

I thought the object of the exercise was to get into the playoffs! Considering how the Saints finished last year AND that we are perfect in the division, and one game from being .500 on the road, I am happier than a dog with 2 tails.

I am not saying that there aren't issues, but there are a lot of teams that would swap places with the Saints in a New York second if they could.

I'll tell you where I get the courage, because I know that no matter what happens, this is my team, because New Orleans is the city I grew up in. All my family is from Louisiana for the last several hundred years. So, win or lose they are my team, and I will be rooting for them and no one else. So, in the big picture, it really doesn't matter to me if they win next Sunday, or even ever again.

That said, this team with Sean Payton, Drew and all the other play makers that have been around for awhile --this is the best team the Saints have ever fielded. So, there is hope and a sense of urgency, right now for these particular years. And, I hope this team fights hard and plays its guts out because we all know that if they do that, they are capable, THIS YEAR to go all the way. We can see it. And, then we see **** like the Rams -- and it's disappointing -- but we know they are better than that.

So, here comes the hope part...I will be hoping on Sunday, watching my team play a division game....and I will be sending all the crazy ass mental vibe **** out to my team in Charlotte hoping they win. And, if they fight hard and play as well as they can play ( like Dallas did against the Packers ) and still lose, then I will be sad, but I won't stop believing in them for one more reason: Any given Sunday, baby. :-)

SaintsBro 12-17-2013 01:59 PM

Re: We need to win on the road

I think the trick to "fan courage" on Sunday is going to be, to stay calm in the opening quarter. If the Saints can survive the first fifteen minutes without a total implosion, without completely tanking the whole game away in one half a quarter, THEN I think the cooler heads on this team will come to the fore, guys will get their game faces on, it will settle down, the veterans will inspire the new young guys, and Drew will roll up his sleeves and start dissecting and doing surgery. But if that first quarter is a bunch of Football Follies goofiness like bobbled squib kicks, Captain Munnerlin pick 6's from the 9 yard line, big blotches of grass ripping up from the field, mystery fumbles in the pile that nobody sees, delay of game penalties and stupid stuff like that, then it's gonna be rough. But if that first quarter is just a regular quarter of normal calm football, THEN I'd feel really confident -- the Saints should be in very good shape to pull it out. But surviving that first onslaught of craziness is gonna be key.
