Further, our success of pass protection is based on a secured pocket anchored by guards, sort of like a crenellation on a castle, unlike other teams who attempt to create larger pockets with high-priced tackles... Brees, with his effective pocket evasiveness, can move into this smaller, secured pocket and deliver the ball to the receiver in a short rhythm passing game... Still further, I'd argue that the long, calculated deep strikes were allowed because the tackles in those games were effective against inferior outside pass rushers and not so much against teams who were able to negate the long passing ability with effective four-man rush fronts (i.e. Jets, Seahawks and Rams)... The only lineman I would say had any success since leaving the Saints is Jonathan Goodwin to the 49ers; Bushrod in Chicago has got to be thinking of his quarterbacks "Drew never hung on to the ball this long..." The other linemen you mentioned have not had the success they had in New Orleans because of Brees' ability to get rid of the ball... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
