All-Worst Saints Team Nomination Committee

I think it time, after 47 years, to have an all-time worst team, by position. We should start by determining what the criteria are for such a distinction, and whether we should have just 22 or a full roster.

No doubt that this will be an involved and heated debate. As we have had so little to be proud of for so long, and since having turned the corner, we can, with dignity, and some sense of humility, offer these sacrifices to the Gods of the Football Bounce.

I offer these preliminary criteria:

  1. Consitent On-Field blunders
  2. Contract
  3. Off Field issues
Any nomination should come with that proposer's justification as to the special distinctions which lead to the honor of being that position's Worst Saint Ever.

Once nominations are complete, we will have a poll, by position.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let the hating begin....

Really... are we going to discuss that? Can't we save it for the offseason?

I'm not going to comment further. On a unrelated note...

I can' t possibly think about this right now. Off season. Kick back with a forum full of regular die-hards and a couple of cold beers. Love the idea. Maybe August. But now?

Clearly you both have better things to do than amuse yourselves during the interminable wait between games. I guess we should have another Hartley or left tackle thread? Maybe another MI sucks forum post?

Worse players of all time are from the 1970s.
I forget their names and don't want to remember.

Russell Erxleban for Consistent On-field Blunders. He can be reached at the nearest federal prison to accept his award!

Unanimous first team All Suck selections...

Jonathan Sullivan, DT
Albert Connell, WR
The Black Hole, CB

No explanation necessary.

Congrats to these three individuals for accomplishing anything.

I got to go with Wade Wilson for QB. Back in 1993 when he was the starter I went to my only live Saints game. It was MNF at home 12-20-93, my 20th birthday, against the Giants and he stunk it up. Me and my best friend drove all the way from Wichita Kansas in a VW to watch them for my birthday. That little Megget helped ruin it too when he returned that punt for a TD but at least Mike Buck got to play.

I would like to nominate Jonathan Sullivan as captain of this all-worst team.

Re: All-Worst Saints Team Nomination Committee

Larry Burton -WR Couldn't catch a cold.

Rick Middleton LB- Couldn't tackle Garrett Hartley if he had too. (We took him instead of his college team mate Randy Gradishar.)

Johnny Po CB -Became a decent CB. Eventually.

Jerry Sturm erroneously reported to be an OT.

Russel Erxlaben -Possibly the worst draft pick in the history of football.

Larry Hardy TE -Couldn't catch, couldn't block, the best thing about him was he was always injured.

Bobby Scott QB -Sat on the bench for ten years. When he finally got a chance to play he couldn't get the ball past the line of scrimmage. (Honorable mention - the Bobby Joes.)

Jonathan Sullivan.

Tom Dempsy K -If it wasn't 50 yds or more he couldn't hit it.

Gary Cuozzo QB - Not really a bad QB but if we hadn't traded the #1 overall pick for him we could have drafted HoFer Bubba Smith. Our other DE that Year was HoFer Doug Atkins.

Gary Cuozzo? How about their First Draft choice ever, Les Kelley?

Yeah that was bad too.

We talk about holding our breath when Hartley went up to kick, but what about Chip Lohmiller, he had like a 50% success rate.

Sadly there's a difference. We didn't have to hold our breathe for Chip... just kind of expected it.

Gil Fenerty wasn't that bad! He was better than Vaughn Dunbar and countless other backs we've had on our roster.

I remember Walsh and the Billy Joes. I actually thought Billy Joe Hobert was decent sometimes. Of course that's not going on todays standards. Lol. Just back then we were awful enough at that position that I actually thought he was "decent".

All of those guys you named were short timers. Some of them for just a few games. Scott was here for ten years.

Jonathan Sullivan was terrible but his backup was even worse. (I assume) I don't think the OP was looking for a list of guys nobody ever heard of.
