Saints defense trying to solve turnover drought

METAIRIE, La. — Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins has played football for a long time, and it's his experience that forcing turnovers is about goals and priorities.

That's why he thinks New Orleans needs to go back to the way it used to play defense.

During the past seven games, the Saints have forced two turnovers — a league low during that span. Now they're trying to figure out what has changed since their first seven games, when they forced 15 turnovers.

Jenkins reflects back to New Orleans' 2009 defense, which helped the Saints win a Super Bowl while creating 39 turnovers in the regular season and eight in the postseason under former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams

Up until our secondary problems which really started showing when Greer went down the only thing that disappointed me was the lack of turnovers. Its an odds game though and we are due a good hand. These things come in bunches and right now would be an awesome time for it to happen.

If forcing turnovers is about goals and priorities, whats tackling properly about? Maybe he should focus on doing one thing right.

Obviously, the coaches are not coaching stripping the ball hard enough. In 2009, they coached it so hard -- even the offense was getting into the act. Remember Meacham's strip - TD against the Chiefs? I still haven't seen anything like that before or since.

In 2009, you could see the D grabbing, scratching, pulling, punching for the ball on almost every play. I rarely see it now. That's the sense of urgency we need on this TEAM RIGHT NOW. We almost lost that game against the Cheifs. If it hadn't been for Meachams grit and playmaking -- we would have lost ( a road game ).

It was against Washington.

Interceptions are a product of one of these three things.

Opportunity, instinct (which can not be taught), and luck (right place/right time).

The majority of the interceptions that Drew throws are just flat out luck. They are either thrown right at the defender or its a tip drill.

Well Malcolm oh boy, if you dive at the ground instead of whoever has the ball your never going to get a turnover but you might get to let us know how the grass taste. I'm so sick of this clown it's unreal. We need a real man playing FS not this punk. Wake up Payton, your the head coach. I will give Lofton his credit he can tackle.

We can't force TO's and we can't run the ball. No wonder we are 3-11.
