Remember how everybody has been talking all year about how the receivers are slow, and aren't getting open/getting separation?

I don't know what his original numbers/stats are, but Thomas had a rep for "fast."

Just kicking the tires. I don't know much about him but the Lions worked this Charles Hawkins guy out too, in September.

Personally, I think it's Payton trying to trim a few fractions of a second off ALL our current wide receivers' speed, LOL. Guys tend to run faster when they think there's someone chasing behind them.

Cut Toon and bring this dude in... Sounds good to me. Toon may have a better grasp of the play book but stone hands equals wasted roster spot.

Payton is not kidding around and I don't blame him. The drop off in recent weeks is a serious problem. Very unconventional this late in the season but it's either put people on notice or accept defeatism.

Dawson looks like he is out again, but a LB? We are carrying 10
Thomas might be better than Toon and Tanner, but that doesn't get him on the field

seems like a strange way for coaches to be spending a Friday before the biggest game of the year, but what the hell do I know?

This might explain why Payton's press availability today was like, three minutes long and he split.

We don't know, it could have even been like, multiple player tryouts at the same time, like two tackles on each side of RG4, vs. backup or practice squad Saints DT's, throwing to a WR in coverage by a linebacker, who is cussing like "oh man -- they called me in for a tryout to do my weakest, worst thing -- ain't this a b--ch" or just looking at different stuff from each guy. We don't know what happened, but it sounds to me like a little mini scrimmage to look at specific people, and Payton may not have even been there.

I don't blame Coach Payton one bit. This team is basically the best, most-balanced, most promising team we've had since 2009. With a future HOF QB, as well as the standard-issue amazing Saints offense, and this year an amazing defense -- there should be NOT EVEN A QUESTION OF US GETTING BACK TO AT LEAST THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SB Part Deux. It would be pissing away the embarrassment of talent on this team. Payton and the whole team should be mad as hell at any one not playing their best right now. If poor performers need to go to get Job #1 done, then so be it.

They could all be candidates for the 2014 training camp.

We'll need to hit on numerous cheap players in order to get the top end of our roster signed.

Another 2013 Draft/UDFA class would be the perfect solution to some of our cap problems.

+1. Toon has been a major disappointment for me this far.

I understand he is a 2nd year player but I expected a bit more.

Not exactly the standard issue amazing Saints offense. This is the worst offense we have had since 2005. The defense has held this team together and statistically its not the best defense we have had in the Payton era (2010). I thought the 2011 Saints team was the best I have seen, record breaking offense and a defense that played well enough.

We have had a serious drop off in our offensive production this year, partially due to Payton's poor play calling and Drew not having a #1 WR (not TE). Drew needs a fast and physical WR to get the ball to. It is disappointing to see him get time in the pocket yet find no open targets. Furthermore I think going to the zone blocking scheme was a mistake.

All that being said we have a shot at the 2 seed and anything can happen in the playoffs.

So when you go on season ending IR in 2012, that makes him a rookie in 2013?

Good! Some of these guys just aren't justifying their salaries. (Grubbs, Toon, Brown and much as I hate to say it Evans and Lance Moore.)

This team isnt as good as 2011.A better defense now than then but that offense flew and should have won the lot

Stills is an actual rookie... So Toon has no excuse for his ineptitude.

IMO, a lot of the reduction in the offense is because Colston has been injured.

Colston was Brees' safety blanket, and when he was out earlier, he went to Graham. Then he got dinged, started dropping balls and Brees shifted his sights to Stills.

Now that Colston is healthy, that should help open the offense.

Ineptitude? Dude has a case of the drops. Graham lead the league in drops last year, should he go too?
