Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
Saints quarterback Drew Brees was sacked six times in the team's 17-13 loss at the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but he said not all of the sacks were the fault of his offensive line. Click here to see the video.

I agree that he did at times also, our recievers needed to get open but did not.

Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
I thought he had a horrible first half of the game. He is a great QB but a few times this season he has shown flashes of last season. He needs to move in the pocket more like he did in his younger days. The O-Line isn't nearly good enough for him to just sit in one spot.
I watched Romo, of all people, with a few great plays just by moving away from the defensive rush. Maybe it was through beer goggles but Drew seemed a bit too frazzled. Low confidence in that O-Line? |
Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
I like our players but I think we need a real number 1 WR, I don't think the committee approach is working anymore
Like I said yesterday, based on who we bring in every play I can 8 out of 10 times call what type of play we are about to run, its getting very old very quickly Ingram by the second quarter was averaging 11.8 yards per carry, we went away from him and started throwing BS screen passes which lost us like 16 yards Brees needs to take a paycut, as much as people dont believe it or dont want to believe it - he is the reason he is getting drove into the turf every other play, I'm glad he got paid because now he is seeing the effects of his holdout Coach payton needs to wise up, we have lost 3 games in the exact same fashion now and he still hasn't learned anything from them. He held out and we couldnt franchise nicks, Grubbs is a good player but he is no Carl Nicks whilst he was here The LT spot is a complete mess, brees either needs to free up some dollar or we have to draft complete O line If you can call that play a fake FG, was pathetic Brees throws some dumbass picks, that one to keuchly, what the hell was he doing? How in the hell did malcolms jenkins miss that sack on cam newton on the game winning play? that was embarrassing |

ya think. i could reach a bit here and put 3 sacks as coverage sacks or as this thread points out "space out" sacks

Why not SELL OUT Malcolm!!! Jump, lunge, DIVE. Take a page out of Troy Polumalu safety playbook. Did he think a large man like Cam was going to just fall down because he 'whiffed' by him?? Very poor effort by Jenkins... It may be time to move past MJ this off season. |

Drew Brees, just like any other "elite" QB constantly under pressure, loses his normal effectiveness no matter what the weather.

Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
What I do find surprising is his aversion to throwing the ball away when there are seemingly no options.
Another possibility is his lateness on checkdown. |
Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
Drew Brees read progression on non-screen passes:
Graham Graham Col ... Graham Graham Moo ... Graham Graham Wat ... Graham Stil ... Graham Graham Pier ... Graham Graham Graham (sack) Graham Graham Cruel, but I thought it would be funny. |
Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
Brees - Kenny stills is wide open, jimmy graham is in triple coverage
I'll take my chances for a highlight reel play |
Re: Brees says he held the ball too long a few times against Panthers
I have sorta been in denial about it for a long time, but I am beginning to think that some of Brees' bone-headed interceptions ARE in fact, because, as has been said a million times, he is SHORT. I think guys get to lurking behind the linemen and they sorta become invisible to him. They showed one angle yesterday on the Keuchly interception and I was like, oh....light bulb went off. Especially the freakazoid "WTF?" INT's that linebackers get from Brees, that just appear completely incomprehensible and knuckleheaded to people viewing the whole field from the side. I think it's not inconceivable that defenses are actually scheming for this and encouraging it, knowing that it's a weakness of his so creating situations where it happens. Of course if you say that Brees is too short, all heck breaks lose. I'm a big defender of his, just saying it's possible....
