"Payton also added he will not run another screen or swing pass for the entire first drive of the next game"

Re: Armstead To Get Another Start

I thought he did solid for a rookie on a premier pass rusher in his first game but some of those sacks drew held on to the ball too long, that didn't help either out. But bottom line for him to get better he needs playing experience can't get that riding the pine. He'll turn out to be pretty good, i bet a paycheck on that.

Re: Armstead To Get Another Start

It looked like he only got flat out beat 2 or 3 times max. Against a premiere pass rusher in what was a playoff like atmosphere, Id say that's not to shabby.

They better hope he pans out though....

They cant just print money like the Feds.

I agree. No way we can go back to Brown at this point, Coach would lose the team. Armstead got better as the game went on. He just needs reps.

1 start want tell everything, we have to know if he is really good or not. I don't think he was all bad especially coming from Pine Bluff, Arkansas school. He has upside!!

Only one that got open was Stills and the other TE not named Graham.

I've been thinking the same thing. Early in the season, when we were winning, the short, ball control, passing game was our bread and butter. It seems to be missing lately.

Just have to give him some help because he will have a bulleye on him.

I think the improvement from game 1 to game 2 will be noticeable.
Got the jitters out, can work all week on correcting his errors, and he's at home.

The improvement from 1st to 2nd half was noticeable. The guy gave up 0 sacks on 22 drop backs in the 2nd half. It also felt like we ran the ball much better with him in, you cant credit him completely with that but he played a role.

Brees has held the ball to long, but the fact is teams have been able to get significant pressure on Brees with a 4 man rush and put 7 in coverage, result no one is open or takes longer to get open.

Since around game 6, yes.

Which is why we need to run even if we're only getting 3 yrds a pop. It opens up the short game. I still would like an explanation as to why we went away from Ingram.

Re: Armstead To Get Another Start

He should, he did all right for a rookie. There were a few times it looked like the game was moving too fast for him, but let him finish out the season starting at L/T and he'll be a keeper. Personally, I liked when he dunked over the crossbar (sans football) on the Graham TD ... I thought "now here's a guy out there just enjoying his first start in the NFL",.

And I think he gets better and better with each start.

I'm pretty excited to see what he looks like with an entire off-season of NFL conditioning, and a full TC/Pre-season starting at LT.

Just give him some help because Tampa watched the Carolina game and they will be trying to attack any weakness they can.

Re: Armstead To Get Another Start

This is a sign he is our guy going forward and he needs the reps to learn. Charles Brown will make a solid backup but his abilities are limited. Armstead is raw but his abilities are much higher than Brown. An offseason, full camp and pre-season and he will seem like a different man.

“I plan on it being a whole lot smoother. I plan on you guys not noticing I’m out there,” joked Armstead, who has obviously seen an increase in media attention over the past week since being thrust into the starting lineup in favor of struggling veteran Charles Brown."

“I think one of the things that we saw in the running game, he did a really good job finishing,” Payton said.

Drew is a pocket QB... That is called intentional grounding.

Not if he'd left the pocket so he could throw the ball out of bounds.

No need to. If he could get out of the pocket at will, he probably wouldn't take the sack or need to throw it away.

I tried to help you. Thanks for playing.

Brees was always rated high for releasing the ball quickly. What has changed to make him delay his throws? If it is because his receivers are not getting open then I wonder what has changed there.

Re: Armstead To Get Another Start

We averaged 10 yards per offensive play (9.6 overall, 15.3 passing)," Brees said after the game, "which was pretty ridiculous."

it doesn't matter how many yards you have if you do not score touchdowns!

I'm glad they're sticking with the young man, because all things considered, he did a fine job in his first professional start.

Now, if only they had a solid center...

You must have turned the game off early. Armstead wasn't so great in the beginning, but in the 2nd half he didn't allow a single sack.
