New Orleans Saints' defense falters late, pass protection falters often at Carolina: Film Study
If anyone cares to read the autopsy report
New Orleans Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton felt nauseous after the defense gave up a late touchdown on the Carolina Panthers, who had no timeouts and only 55 seconds remaining on the clock for their final drive. I'm willing to bet he wasn't the only one as Saints fans back home also probably grabbed for barf bags. The final drive orchestrated by the previously ineffective Cam Newton shouldn't negate just about every other play the Saints' defense made in New Orleans' 17-13 loss last Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. The stout play of the defense hasn't been overlooked, judging by the reaction of fans throughout social media and the rest of the Internet. But that last drive obviously played a major role in the team's demise as Newton woke up from his 59-minute slumber just long enough to snatch away a Saints win, an NFC South crown and potential first-round bye as the NFC's two seed. The Offense could have killed that game off!

I don't think I would say the D faultered, I think they give up some points 10 in the way I see it , no matter what the scoreboard says. I would actually say, the other 7 points was caused by the O and an int. giving them a short field. I totally agree with Rail Boss.

Goes to show that TEAM is the factor.
When your O blows it for most of the game, it is your fault D when you mess up at the very end. |

Lion's share of the blame for this loss, as well as a few other, goes to the offense.

Atleast the kicking game was something no body was talking about . Looks like Sean can now sit back and rely on getting the 3 points when the offense gets stopped . We have not had that feeling in awhile...graham shows that a field goal try does not have to just squeak through... The middle of the goal is open too.... Very encouraging !!!!!

Do you guys think that Brees takes enough of the blame for the losses where he threw interceptions that turned into points for the other team?

Drew Brees is a a GREAT quarterback. However at times he can be a gun slinger like Brett Favre and throw some INT's. It's just his style lol. I can live with most... It's just who he is. |
Re: New Orleans Saints' defense falters late, pass protection falters often at Carolina: Film Study
Anyone who says that game was on the defense is delusional. Our offense turned over the ball twice and our defense got 4 sacks and a turnover against Cam. The defense did their job. Our offense, however.....

Offense lost this game plain and simple
Our D held the panthers to 1 of 10 3rd down conversions, if our O cant score more than 13 points and expect to win then thats embarrassing |
Re: New Orleans Saints' defense falters late, pass protection falters often at Carolina: Film Study
What was upsetting to me was that we had the momentum the entire first half and then he threw that interception and the whole game changed. I would have been happy going into the half up 6-0.

One could say that to expect any offense to be able to burn clock easily against the #2 rushing Defense in the league is just a little over zealous.

Panthers are averaging 30 points per game at home. We held them to 17. Our defense played their asses off. |

I'm certainly not pinning the loss on the defense. There's enough blame to go 'round. |

Our Defense did play their butts off and they did do what they were asked to do. The problem is that they are consistently asked to play prevent near the end of a game when we know that is not a strength. I fully believe if they were asked/told to do what they did for 58 minutes of the game, the last 2 minutes would have been different. |
