One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Someone else please post the photos of talib, kleachey, etc
MUGGING our receivers

Cant count how many drives killed by "tite coverage'

When we are away from the dome

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Our recievers need to be just as physical with them, I see a lot of db.'s getting away with that, not only against us but all over the NFL. Seattle gets buy with it the most I believe followed by San Fran. It plays both ways or it should. Our recievers need to grow some balls and get back to work.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Thats why we need a true number one wide receiver

Brandon marshall, calvin johnson, larry fitzgerald and andre johnson are all great examples of true number 1 wide outs that are physical and take no crap at the line of scrimmage

Colston and graham are not physical players, aqib talib is outweighed by jimmy by about 40 pounds and made jimmy look like a high school player

Time for the receivers to start knocking some of these dbs on their collective a$$e$. Hard to cover when your on your butt.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

physical begats physical. Either better technique getting off the line, mix up the motion man, mix up formations, something. Although having a physical presence at the receiver position certainly is a great place to start.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

"Yeah just be more physical guys! We just need a Calvin Johnson!" Ok, while I get where a lot of you are saying, and I agree in part, there's a big difference between playing physical to get off a jam or going up and fighting for a jump ball (Jimmy Graham trex arms) and having a 240 pound linebacker hanging on your back, not even trying to play the pass.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Colston is a number #1 receiver. What we need is new options. I remember in 1998 as The Dallas Cowboys HC Chan Gailey lined Michael Irvin up in the back field. Be more exotic with the placement of Colston and Graham. That will not only free them up but also the other offensive playmakers.

Liking this thread. Yeah, Saints reciever corps -- we've seen better. We all know it. Did we sacrifice WR corps for a better D? Money guys?

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Or run more illegal pick plays like harbaugh does in San Fran

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

I hit on this early, not just us either. DBs are mauling. Somebody is telling refs to look away.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Doesn't appear to be affecting the Bronco receivers very much, maybe the the referee crew's doing their games aren't getting the message.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

I think a lot of our road struggles are just a mental thing. It isn't like our players downgrade in talent away from home or anything. We just don't have the confidence/swagger on the road like we do in the dome.

Kuechly Tackled Graham before the ball got there on one touchdown pass attempt...

On several plays

In the dome, the boos fly on the first mauling
Then the refs call the holds
Recall Colston in first Panthers game

Killed the drive
Then got the calls

Gronk got malled by Carolina too

As "offense happy" as the rules seeem to be regarding qbs
Our team seems to be getting so many non calls on the receivers

If I was drew I'd throw right at a held receiver and have them react demonstratively

You mean pull a Roddy?

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

No. Just fight for the ball, try to throw off the holds, lean into the defender towards the balll making the infraction even more obvious

And at all cost fight it out if the db snatches it

I beg to differ

because ol whats is name from tennesse did not work out in the first round. oh yeah meachem.

Colston is a Z WR in this offense. possession guy

especially at this point in his career. but i have been saying this for years and never bought into the great depth statement either at wr for years. so most people take me a crack pot at this position :jester:

Not sure what anyone expects when we ride that horse into double and triple coverage play in and play out...

He will go the way of the Gronk before it is over.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Thats why i want the saints to take another risk on WR early in the draft. we need to reload the WR corp. so Graham can get a break and last a bit longer in a saints uni. we have not done it since Mechuem and that was a reach in the first place, time to revisit that position in the draft.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

Time to revisit the O-Line.

jeezus. we can't win on the road with players who have no confidence.

hagan714 12-27-2013 11:38 AM

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

i say it is as simple as playing on grass. teams play with the length of the grass according to what team they are playing. example chicago had their turf at league max when they played us.

look gotta practice out doors. grass slows everything down. that IMO is the big difference for us. throws our timing off.

I figured out or offensive woes and it has to do with the 0-line but its fairly contrary to popular opinions.... It will not be fixed this season but is easily fixable.

Had a page worth of thread started then FireFox crashed. :(

what good will a #1 receiver do if Drew is getting pressured still. Gotta start there.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

alot of people agreed with me on yahoo that certain defenses get away with anything.

49ers, Ravens, Seahawks, to name 3 right there, but it seems the road woes is more to do with officiating than anything, its inconsistent to a pretty high degree. All it has done this season is alter playoff seedings and screw some teams out of the post season, last 2 years they been wanting big marketable teams in the playoffs and SB and then add story lines behind it, almost as bad as wrestling, we know how fake that is.

bobdog86 12-27-2013 07:05 PM

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

While its hard NOT to believe in some type of conspiracy, watching some of the games, I'm not ready to bite the conspiracy theory. I know the Comissar would prefer certain teams in the SB, but just don't buy it. I think the rookie contracts and current salary cap and wussy rule changes has more to do with the eff'd state of affairs than anything.

Steve Smith's (Carolina Panther version) getting his Hall of Fame jacket sized in 5-7 years if he played w/ Drew Brees.

Re: One big reason why the saints lose on the road

I posted about this in another thread, but I suppose it was probably tl:dr or else I am on a lot of people's ignore list

But the people whining about the refs are such babies. They're like a bunch of crybaby liberals who want the refs to PICK UP and advance the football FOR the Saints, when the Saints can't get a first down on their own, because waaaah, it's NOT FAIR for the other team to stop them! We should score every time, it's not fair, wah wah wah.

Okay, the refs -- what is their JOB??? The refs are basically there to REWARD good football, and to punish BAD football! That's what they do!

If you are playing GOOD football -- disciplined, smart, sportsmanlike, solid, and if you are the better team of the two -- the refs will GIVE YOU all the calls you need. They will inch that ball forward to give you the first down; they will throw that pass interference flag for you, or delay of game, or call an obvious incompletion a catch -- they will GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED to win.

If you are playing BAD FOOTBALL, if you're getting manhandled, outphysicaled, sloppy, undisciplined, overpowered, and are complaining about everything, they will look the other way, or tell you to TALK TO THE HAND.

It happens all the time. For the Saints, the way to get more of the calls to start going your way, is to man up and start NOT SUCKING ON THE ROAD.

Sorry but having your receiver completely held before the ball gets there without the slighest suggestion of a flag isn't whining

Learn how to really jab some one at the line of scrimmage not just push them a little bit.

You just answered why we so not spend the big money for a #1 WR. It's very risky.

We lose on the road because we always do something stupid early and play shell-shocked the rest of the game.

Its 90% Mental, 10% personnel... oh and 10% coaching.:p
