Saints seek ways to slow Eagles' fast-paced offense
1 Attachment(s)
Of the two major obstacles they must negotiate to survive their wildcard-round visit to Philadelphia on Saturday night, the Saints think they’ve found the solution to one of them.
They’ll see if their afflictions playing away from the Superdome are psychological and can be fixed by wearing different warm-ups; changing the Gatorade flavor from fruit punch and orange to lemon-lime; and switching up what’s served for dinner the night before the game, coach Sean Payton said Monday, confirming what some of his players seemed to be joking about after their 42-17 win against Tampa Bay (4-12) a day earlier. However, precisely how to counteract the ballyhooed up-tempo offense the Eagles (10-6) run under coach Chip Kelly was something the Saints (11-5) were still in the early stages of planning Monday. “They run a play, and they’re back on the line of scrimmage within 16 seconds or something like that,” Saints linebacker David Hawthorne said of a Philadelphia team that claimed the NFC East crown with a win at Dallas on Sunday. “(Kelly) has really introduced that style of play to the NFL, and it’s working for them.” Hawthorne and his teammates will be battling an Eagles offense that’s ranked second in the league (417.2 yards per game) under circumstances that are less than ideal, for reasons that by now couldn’t be more well-documented. Yeah the lemon-lime gatorade is the best.

Their last 4 home games they scored 24, 24, 34 then 54. All wins. Yeah, that offense is rolling pretty good.
But it seems to me that Foles was the difference and not entirely the no huddle that they run. |

I like our chances, even if it is outdoors and on the road. None of those wins were against a top five defense with also a top five offense. |

saints can not play out of control and overly aggressive our this game will turn in another seattle nightmare. i did not like what i saw in the saints defense against tampa. i fear they did not learn their lesson in seattle. philli will use over purist against us. stay home is my advice. discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline |

Their division is awful, and they played the other bad division, and lost to the two AFC playoff teams they faced. |

Thats true, they are good, but not great. Combined with our road struggles of late I'd say we have about a 60-40 shot at beating them in Philly. |
Re: Saints seek ways to slow Eagles' fast-paced offense
They are averaging 70 more yards than us on the ground. That is a glaring problem and really the only thing that bothers me. I agree though, they have yet to play a good defense. Get some three and outs and it could force them to start playing our game.

Re: Saints seek ways to slow Eagles' fast-paced offense
I'll take 60-40. All the teams in the playoffs are there for a reason . The eagles make a living running the ball. We will struggle if we let them keep time of possession in their favor. They take care of the football and we must too.I don't think that the Eagles Defense gets enough credit . IMHO this will be a game that see saws back and forth with a end of game drive for the win.Turnovers as always will be crucial. This should be a fun one to watch .If we play as we are capable of playing we are a better team by a small margin.

Re: Saints seek ways to slow Eagles' fast-paced offense
This is a tough game to pick. The Eagles are very fast on offense with Mcoy and Jackson. They run an effective fast paced offense and Foles doesn't turn the ball over. They also run the ball very effectively. I think the Saints need to find a way to run the ball against the Eagles. The Eagles are a good team but I do think the Saints are better. I predict we'll be able to score points on the Eagles and eventually we'll get to Foles enough to win the game by 10 pts or more. Of course I see the world through black and gold goggles so who knows. WHO DAT!
