Coming clean- anyone else?

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I was indifferent about it; at least Sean was wanting change and that was a good thing.

Never thought we'd see this great of an improvement though!

I was on the fence. I will be honest, I felt like he would do better than what we had. I just dint see this kind of a year out of them.

I wasn't too crazy about it either. Absolutely elated that I was wrong and will eat all the crow there is.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I actually had faith, I was watching the draft with a good friend of mine and he's a Cowboys fan, when the boys were up to pick it showed their defensive stats and he says, "Those will be your stats a year from now" and I scoffed and the told him the Cowboys were going to have a horrible defense this year, and boy was I right.

Pass the hot sauce over here... I'm eating some crow too and I couldn't be happier about it!

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I wasn't happy that the Saints hired a coordinator that had just been fired. And I especially wasn't happy about getting one of the cowboy's rejects. I was afraid of hearing things like "y'all shoulda known better" or "what were the Saints thinking"

I was way wrong. It's been just the opposite. Most of my cowboy lovin friends are jealous and ticked off that their organization had a coordinator that could coach up a top 5 defense out of a bunch of scrubs (what they thought of our players last year) and they fired him.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

To tell the true I was happy about the signing because we had to many guys I thought that could rush the passer. The only thing I was wrong about was that Martez Wilson would have a big year especially when Will Smith went down.

Honest moment: I'm anxious and nervous about tomorrow. Hate for our season to end.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I didn't mind the signing, but had you told me we would be in the top half of total defense I would have said someone was smoking crack.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

Will Smith at LB had me fuming. Once I read that I thought for sure another season of a porous defense. Then I dug up stats of teams with a new DC, less than 20% made the playoffs. Smith never manifested on the field and low and behold we beat the stats. I was wrong but my reasoning was right.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

At the beginning of the season, I watched a "Bold Predictions" segment. Not much of it was memorable, but I do recall one bold statement.

Warren Sapp said he thinks that Rob Ryan will bring "it" back to our Defense this year. He boldly stated that New Orleans would go from worst to first. He then reiterated by saying that he thinks we will have a top 5 overall defense.
He was slightly ridiculed for it, but hey, that's what the bold predictions are for.

Thanks for being psychic, Warren. :D

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I was a pretty big rob Ryan fan from back when he was in Cleveland. When he used the entire D-line standing up to confuse Drew, I was highly impressed. Their defense pulled quite the upset that day.

Rob was a scapegoat for dallas, as many before him were. I knew this system would be good. I just didn't expect it to be this effective without us even having the ideal roster for 3-4.
Granted we rarely line up in 3-4. Hehe

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I was one that liked thye Spags hiring the liked it twice as much when Payton fired him. Then we were going from the 4-3 to a 3-4 and was estatic, when Ryan was hired I was o.k. with it but I thought he would get our D around the 19th ranking range( no where to go but, up, right) but he has blown my expectations out of the water, if there is a DC of the year the man deserves it hands down. Great job!!

Can a coordinator win Coach of the Year? If so, Rob has my vote. Pete Carroll is a close second.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I can't say I didn't have my doubts, I think I was more suprised that spagnola was the scapegoat for everything that happened last year defensively....I thought Shawn would give him a pass..... I'm really glad he didn't. I want the win, no doubt.... Get this bullish-- road playoff record crap off our shoulders....

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

I was good with it. Ryan has had plenty of good defenses. He didn't make his name just by being Rex's brother, he has always been a good DC.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

Guilty also......just couldn't see what Ryan would bring to the team when he was signed. I couldn't get past the "goof" image Rob portrays, but he has some serious skills as a DC! I will gladly eat crow on this one!

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

i am not there yet. i will give him time to get some players but sing his praise? nope not yet.

i have seen too many cowgirl flash back with this defense. adjustments on the fly so far in close games or games were we are getting blown out have been unsatisfactory to say the least. defense is easy when your ahead.

one year of Spag does not make me forget what williams was trying to build and his philosophy he was putting in place. The pieces were here before roy boy showed up. he fell into a sweet position and to this point IMO is getting an easy pass to sainthood.

but i will give him time. i still would prefer to have Williams back at this point

my number one complaint is attacking without discipline is the fault of the coaching.

discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline discipline

we lack discipline

but i will give him time.

I was just so glad to see Payton have the balls to fire Spaz after just one year that I didn't think much about RR.

Will be interesting to see what Crennel does next year, assuming he is a DC somewhere

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

Well, I'm glad it's worked out and I really like that he keeps it real with the local watering holes; that said...

If it weren't for injuries to Will Smith and Kenyon Coleman, I wonder if Glenn Foster and Tyrunn Walker would have gotten the opportunities...

The one thing I was excited about was the commitment to play Kenny Vaccaro as they have, as well as create opportunities for Rafael Bush; it took an outsider to come in and explain to Payton (who's loyal to his players to a fault) that Harper and Jenkins are horrible in coverage...

Guess we'll watch and see how he and defense progresses in both this post season and offseason moves...

I expect, we stay in our 3 safety look for much of the game tonight... Need all the speed and coverage ability we can get. 3-3-5 Galette and Hawthorne lined up outside...

No way I hated it with the way we went lst year.
No way I thought we would do so well. I thought maybe 6 or so plaecs better and he was doing good. Now I got that real wrong.

Why do I get the feeling that if the entire defense fails tonight and our offense lays an egg with numerous turnovers and numerous 3 and outs, that you're gonna point out 2 or 3 plays that Harper/Jenkins blew as reasons why we lost the game?

Oh thats right, I forgot... because you always do.

Buy a clue JP, they aren't very expensive.

Romeo is probably looking for a home down in Houston as we speak. The Texans will be back on D next season under his guidance.

Re: Coming clean- anyone else?

If you had no concerns about Rob you either didn't care or are a visionary.

There was nothing in his resume (genes yes, resume no) to tell anyone he could field a top 5 defense.

Hell.... I don't know of a swinging dik that knew we had top 4 personnel, much less a coach.

To be #2 in the league in passing defense was unimaginable.

Don't be hard on your self.... Even Rob would have laughed if you told him where we would end up.

I admit I wasn't thrilled about the hire either. I had him pictured as this blustery guy and hes really not.
