How about that run game!!

Ingram and Robinson both looked good pounding the rock tonight, hats off to Payton for finally running the rock. Things are looking good.

We need to keep that up huge in Seattle. Run em til they bleed.

What's great is that we finally have found a decent back for third and short: number 9

I'm so glad they deactivated Ingram and traded him to the Giants after that first tampa game.

Jed Collins is the unsung hero of a lot of those QBKs

Opened up the passing game as well in the second half. Less predictable.

all I know is seattle is not waiting on this team. its there worst senerio for us to go back there. they wanted no part of a pissed off brees, now they have a pissed brees and a running game to dodge. wake up America the saints are coming back jack.

Loved it. I was afraid Sean was going to continue to try to use Ingram on screens like he does PT for a while there but I think he realized that thats for PT to do and Ingram is to run. I did not buy into the theory that Ingram needed a ton of touches to get hot, but I guess it was true. IF we do go further into the playoffs we are going to need to play JUST LIKE THIS. Dictate the pace with a strong run game and play stout defense. Thats how to win on the road in the playoffs. If we can get Drew clicking in the middle of all of it even better.

Play this kind of game next week without the turnovers, we won't be looking to bad. We turnover ZERO and force 2 on them, I like our chances even more.

Plus monkey-stomping that smirk and grin off the face of Satan's Butthole Carroll @ Seattle would make my decade.

No surprise to see Ingram running the ball well... I have been saying this for weeks now. Continue to feed him the rock, and he will get you positive gains more times than not.

Re: How about that run game!!

I think Thomas being out may have been a blessing in disguise..

People on this forum for weeks now have been saying that it messes up the mojo of our backs because we switch them so often. Ingram would carry it once or twice for good gains, and then he'd be taken out in favor of Thomas/Robinson/Sproles for a good while. By the time Ingram gets back in, he doesn't have that same spark due to sitting on the sidelines forever.

Without Thomas tonight, both backs were able to keep their legs warm and ready all game..

With that being said though, there is no doubt I want Thomas back for Seattle. We need all the manpower we can get for that game.

Re: How about that run game!!

I think the key is to let Ingram run more than just 3rd/4th & 1. If he's only trying to get 2 yards, he won't get them because they'll snuff it.

Re: How about that run game!!

Double TE sets, Jed Collins, Meachum in motion, and most importantly the O-line made huge contributions tonight. You can tell Mark's patience and vision has greatly improved. What a win yall!!!!!!

Khiry is going to be a star.He and Ingram give us a great foundation for the future. But don't count out PT and Sproles yet. Most versatile RB group in the league.

And what a difference a bad ass LT makes!

Re: How about that run game!!

I can't document it but I remember during the SF game, Troy Aikman said Sen Payton noticed a difference in body style when Justin Smith practiced at their team facility in prep for the SB. I think that is our new vision for lineman and such.
Like he wanted to send Drew off the next few years in the same way Shanny sent Elway off-- with a running game.

So tonight only surprised me in the fact we did it with this personnel.
Sean Payton: Defense, run game led to Brees’ troubles in 2012 | ProFootballTalk

Payton said there were times last season when he was shouting at the television while watching an offense that he didn’t think was running the ball enough in the early part of the season.

Re: How about that run game!!

Payton's play calling except for that end around BS -- was professional.

What is the Eagles D-line rank? We sure as hell looked awesome out there. I totally loved the QBKs to get the 1 yarders. That was amazing too. Who was the genius that finally started calling that and where has he been all year?

Re: How about that run game!!

PHI rushing defense was #10 in the NFL at around 104 per game this year. This finesse Saints offense put a 180 yard rushing burger on them in their house. Finesse nearly doubled their defensive average and finesse was holding the #1 ranked rushing offense in the NFL to 80 yards.

Am I using the term "finesse" correctly?

Re: How about that run game!!

Even if we average 3 YPC, running the ball 20+ times is what we need to do against Seattle. We need to get an effective play action game going to beat them. Hopefully we continue to emphasize the running game.

Re: How about that run game!!

Had nothing to do with Ingram's increased carries.
He had a couple of +5, +7 runs all in the first half.
It was more of Sean Payton's commitment to the run.
The O-line was ready and executed the run game plan.
What the he11 took so long?
And it only happens when the stage is set early.
Put the defense on their heels, make the LB's play honest,
and give Brees and extra 1.5 seconds of pocket time.
Let's do it again next week. hopefully PT will be back.
A run game, plus screens, plus Sproles, then Brees can light it up.
Excelent win.
I love it!

Re: How about that run game!!

it felt good seeing a ground game like that. that was supposed to be philly's better phase of the defense. im pretty sure they were middle of the pack this year agains the run.

i believe seattle is also a middle of the pack rush defense. this could be a very similar offensive game plan against seattle.

Eagles were 10th against the run and 32 against the pass.
Seattle is 7th against the run and 1st against the pass.

If we have success certainly. Please keep in mind that Philly has weak Safeties and their backend is overall weak, so they game planned to stop our pass. Because of their weak safeties and backend they could not contain both. I am just trying to be honest when I say temper your expectation for similar success against a much better defense in Seattle
