Pro football player Ty Nsekhe blasts military: ‘It doesn’t take much skill to kill someone’

The Washington Times

Monday, September 23, 2013

Pro football player Attauyo ‘Ty’ Nsekhe started quite the firestorm on Twitter on Monday afternoon after he elevated himself above U.S. military members for having “skills.”

“It doesn’t take much skill to kill someone,” Nsekhe, a free agent offensive tackle last signed to the St. Louis Rams’ practice squad, said in response to a tweet by Morgan Reed that read, “Hard to believe that a player in a helmet defendin’ a football makes more money than a soldier in a helmet defendin’ his country.”

The reason you have the freedom & capitalist system that allows you to make $ is directly because of their skill & sacrifice!” musician Chris Loesch wrote, later demanding an apology.

“The epitome of ignorance,” actor Daniel Bostic wrote.

“[Y]ou must be in the military huh,” the football player replied.

*

Update:*The St. Louis Rams*released a statement*on Tuesday, denouncing Nsekhe’s comments.

“The opinions Nsekhe shared via social media are his own and are completely contradictory to the values of our organization and the priority we place on military and veteran appreciation,” the statement read.

“The St. Louis Rams are grateful for the sacrifices our military and their families make in order to defend our freedom and protect our great nation,” it continued. “The Rams have a longstanding commitment to our military and veterans and that commitment has only been strengthened under Head Coach Jeff Fisher, a passionate supporter of the military and everything that they represent. *We find it deplorable that anyone would express any feelings other than extreme gratitude for the service that our country’s military provides.”

Mr. Nsekhe*later tweeted an apology,*saying he recognizes “the sacrifices these members make so that all American’s can enjoy the freedoms our soldiers have afforded us. In no way were my comments meant to demean the members of our armed forces.”

*

Storm in a teacup imo.
Probably not the wisest comment with most Americans attachment to the military. The first comment was put out for a reaction and they got one then it lets those always looking to be offended find offence.

Not sure its wise to refer to a persons military service an "attachment to the military".

I was speaking in general terms.
Americans seem more attached to your military compared to other countries. The government have tried to push it the same over here but it will never be that way.We are completely different in that viewpoint especially in different classes of society. The upper classes are more Queen and country whereas the lower classes especially outside thr South East (London) hold alot of suspicions over the Government in general. It should be noted my Dad is from Liverpool and grew up watching his family members get trambled by the Government led Police who spent there time cracking the heads of Dockers and Miners on strike for fairer pay conditions and then watched as after a stadium disaster cost the lives of 96 football fans get blamed on them in a police and media cover up which is only being fully admitted by some in the courts today.Oh and my Mums Irish so im not that keen on a English (well German) Royal family and Government holding power over whst should be a sovereign nation either.

It wasn't a dig at Americans for it, it your way of life and you are entitled to it.You are a more patriotic nations than we are imo as shown by the players and fans reaction in Military fly byes etc at spirting events.

Your admiration is different because the whole scenario is different. Our US Military are not the right hand of the Government domestically. The Government Police force's here would be the FBI/CIA/NSA etc.. and we hold them in very low regard. They are shady and have bad drivers for their actions.

Don't watch much American news do you? LOL This Government does not push patriotism.

American Patriotism isn't "pushed" on civilians, it is earned by the military on its own.

Lee, I understand you were not trying to take a shot. It read that way at first to me, but I reread it and considered what I know of the source.:bng:

.. If I thought you were taking shots my reply wouldn't have been as soft. :)

That will be looked at too.
You can guarantee that Loomis and Graham's agent will have started prelim talks even if either side wont admit to it yet.

Either the political discussion stops or -
1) dump the thread (delete)
2) chop all/anything political out of it
3) send it to Poli Sci

Ok so what should we do??
This is the Saints board.

You know how it is Oak, these things can get out of hand fast. The political climate just sucks. Folks come here for their Saints fix (and others) but although this kid is an idiot, most could care less and if he was a Soviet Socialist, so long as he can block we don't care.

I guess with military discussion and jazeera mix it felt like a poop bomb ready to explode. You didn't really need to clean up but as always thanks for being thoughtful. Seriously isn't anybody's fault here.
