Re: Free agents 2014
2014 Roster
QB - Brees, Griffin RB - Ingram, Robinson, Cadet FB - Johnson WR - Colston, Stills, Meachem, Toon TE - Graham, Hill OT - Armstead, Strief, Harris OG - Evans, Grubbs, Lelito C - DLP Griffin will win the #2 in camp. Thomas and Sproles are aging and expensive. With a true balanced attack, the need doesn't fit the cost. I expect the Saints to draft a WR early. Graham will most likely be franchised. Strief is very valuable because he can play either tackle and will be re-signed to a fair deal. DLP will re-sign a fair deal unless someone gets stupid and overpays for him. The Saints will draft an o-lineman or two late. DE - Jordan, Hicks, Foster, Galette NT - Jenkins, Bunkley LB - Lofton, Hawthorne, Butler, Reddick, Johnson CB - Lewis, White, Sweeting S - Vaccaro, Bush LS - Drescher P - Morstead K - The Saints first pick will come on the defensive side of the ball unless a top WR or T falls. The Saints need a playmaker at OLB, CB and S from the draft or free agency. They usually go cheap in free agency, so hopefully they'll get lucky in the draft. Due to the numbers, I can see Jenkins or Harper coming back for another year as a Saint. I lean towards Harper because I think Jenkins will get more money elsewhere. Overall, I've left 15 spots completely open for competition. Hopefully, Loomis and Co. will work some more magic and find some real talent on the cheap as they've done in the past. |

I think Cadet is gone, Sproles retires, Thomas stays, and Andy Tanner gets moved up.

Re: Free agents 2014
Strief and Bush are the only "must-sign" guys here to me. Would like to see Jenkins and Haralson back if they are cheap.
Here's what I would like to see next year keeping the cap in mind. QB - Brees, Griffin HB - Robinson, Ingram, Sproles, rookie (Jeremy Hill?) FB - Collins WR - Colston, Stills, Morgan, Toon TE - Graham, Watson, Hill T - Armstead, Strief, Harris G - Evans, Grubbs, Lelito C - DLP or rookie/FA DL - Jordan, Jenkins, Bunkley, Foster, Walker, Hicks, Coleman OLB - Haralson, Galette, Butler, Rufus ILB - Lofton, Hawthorne, Humber, Reddick CB - Lewis, Robinson, White, Sweeting, rookie S - Vaccaro, Bush, Jenkins, rookie or FA ST - Graham, Morestead, Drescher There are not a lot of weak spots here. PT is one of my very favorite players in Saints history, but I wonder if Robinson doesn't replace 90% of his performance at 1/10th the cost. After thinking about it I think people are too quick to get rid of Sproles. He made an awful lot of huge plays this season even if he's not a real threat as a returner anymore. If Colston can stay healthy and Morgan comes back strong, we have no problems at WR anymore. The only other question mark to me is left guard and center. Grubbs needs to accept a pay cut or GTFO and I while I like DLP he struggles with communication IMO. We lack nothing on defense except some speed and coverage ability from the inside linebackers but Bush and Vaccaro both have a ton of range to make up for it. I think we could use a true slot/nickel corner, an agile guy in the mold of Greer. But even that would be a luxury not a necessity. |

Re: Free agents 2014
Grubbs wont take a pay cut,he may extend for more guaranteed money but he holds the cards with a $9.1ml cap figure and $9ml of dead money if he is cut. There are a few players that are at risk this year or next year due to high cap figure and low dead money but Grubbs,Evans,Colston are all safe this year.

Free agents 2014
Anyone here ever been asked to take a pay cut? I don't mean, lose your job or take a pay cut, or take a cut or be forced into retirement.
Just flat out, would you mind taking a pay cut, nothing will happen if you decline? Didn't think so and for those with big brass ballz.... Go tell your wife you took a pay cut because someone asked please. It doesn't matter whether it's $5 or $5m, you will be on IR for the rest of your marriage. No I wouldn't take a pay cut, and some of you have lost touch with reality or do not have a wife DVD children. |

Re: Free agents 2014
Believe it or not, I am not a total idiot. I know how to read the salary cap chart.
If the Saints want Grubbs to restructure they have all the leverage in the world. He can do it this offseason, or get cut next offseason; we gain $4m on the 2015 cap and he loses the $22m remaining on his sweetheart contract. And I think we all know that based on his performance he wouldn't make a third of what he's getting now looking for a new deal with some other team in 2015. We've seen each of the last two offseasons, big name vets with declining performance don't get cut any slack in the free agent market. If Grubbs likes playing for the Saints and he likes $20 million dollars, he will restructure his deal, plain and simple. To be clear, I like Grubbs alright. Pretty good dude, pretty good player. But he's making elite guard money and he is nowhere near being an elite guard anymore. He's just not worth that contract, especially on a team that routinely plucks o-line starters in the 4th and 5th rounds of the draft. |
