Imagine if the New Orleans Saints were successful in their reported attempt to acquire Marshawn Lynch
1 Attachment(s)
You probably haven't heard this story from Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch this week. That's because it's a nice anecdote from his otherwise mysterious behavior with the media during the run up to Super Bowl XLVIII, which has dominated most of the headlines.
But a nugget of interest popped up in the brain of Mr. Aloof. What transpired was an extended gasp of nervous energy followed by a rare stream of spoken words during Media Day on Tuesday. Lynch amazingly revisited his childhood and talked about the first time he dreamed of playing in a Super Bowl. "It was probably the first time I told my momma I was going to play in the NFL," Lynch said. "I was young, probably (in) Pop Warner, playing for the Saints. It was right there in West Oakland (Calif.). Right there at Raimondi Park, about to bounce out (leave for the game). I told her that. She remembered, though. She reminded me of it, too. Yeah, she'll be here (at the Super Bowl)." This got me thinking about how Lynch could have actually suited up for the NFL's version of his Pop Warner team. The New Orleans Saints reportedly made a play to acquire Lynch from Buffalo three years before he was jettisoned to Seattle in 2010. http://imgick.nola.com/home/nola-med...455-mmmain.jpg The Saints apparently wanted Lynch so badly that New Orleans reportedly offered a first-round pick in 2007 for Lynch, then a rookie with the Bills. But this wasn't just some message board rumor material. It was reported by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, who media-savvy Saints fans recognize never swings and misses when reporting Saints news. read more |

Still makes no difference, while ever SP is in charge a back like lynch would not be successful because he wouldnt get the ball enough

The comments that Lynch would not be successful, or Peterson would be mediocre on our offense do not pass the logical smell test.
I will make it really quick and painless. Which one of the following are you ready to tag as mediocre or an unsuccessful runningback? Darren Sproles Pierre Thomas |
Re: Imagine if the New Orleans Saints were successful in their reported attempt to acquire Marshawn Lynch
The one thing you can guarantee wouldn't have happened had the deal gone through was the 49ers game in 2011. Loosing Thomas and the other issues killed us before we got going.Lynch would have ploughed over them in that game.A win there and it was 2 superbowls in three years.

lynch is a back that needs 250-300 carries in order to be used to his full potential and warrant his signing That would not happen in our offense and lynch is not as versatile as either PT or sproles |

If you have a Lynch, Deuce, Peterson, McCoy... Your not forcibly feeding them in hopes that you might see something wonderful. You know its coming and you don't have to wait until the 3rd Qtr for them to establish the mythical rhythm to see it. BTW, Lynch had 37 receptions, that's more than lance Moore and Kenny Stills he is versatile enough. |

Seattle uses him the right way, we wouldn't. We use PT and Sproles correctly but get away from the run when Ingram and Robinson produce in straight up handoffs.
We would waste Lynch's talent. |

Passing Att Payton Manning 675 Drew Brees 651 Rushing Att Denver 461 Saints 391 Lynch would get his 240 (What Moreno got) , Ingram would get his 100, Sproles/Robinson/Cadet/PT (which ever we keep) gets 50. Sean Payton runs the ball when we can run it. 2009 - 461 4.5 YPC 2011 - 431 4.9 YPC Since 2007 in all seasons that we ave less than 4.5 YPC under Sean Payton we had less than 390 ATT, in all Seasons over 4.5 YPC we had more than 430 att. He looks at productivity not gross numbers. The better we run, the more we run.. Not vice versa. |

We had injuries to Ingram, 1/2 the offensive line, Pierre Thomas... Go back through the play by plays... Sean didnt just stop using them, he stopped using them when they stopped successfully running consistently, and our o-line stopped blocking consistently. (for the most part) |
Re: Imagine if the New Orleans Saints were successful in their reported attempt to acquire Marshawn Lynch
Deuce got his carries. We haven't had a Marshawn Lynch caliber of back to warrant those carries since Deuce was in his prime. If you think Pierre Thomas or Sproles could handle running the ball as often as Lynch, or are as talented and deserving you're crazy.

This young kid Robinson might make some people forget about him.

Re: Imagine if the New Orleans Saints were successful in their reported attempt to acquire Marshawn Lynch
Honestly these hind sight news articles from years back are the only reason anyone other than Sproles/Robinson/Thomas/Cadet/Ingram are being thought or talked about.
Other than nothing else to write about, i am not sure why Holder even wrote and published the piece. Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda means nothing. There is no way of knowing how he would have preformed. Realize how many discussions there would be if we went back and unearthed every player the Saints tried to get but didnt? Here is the wash and one thing that I do know. It would have been at the expense of Robert Meachem our first round pick and would have cost us Pierre Thomas who we picked up that year in free agency. Sorry I am not willing to give up a Super Bowl for Marchawn Lynch. Now there is your painted picture.:bng: |
