Drew Stands On Desk To Support Signing Graham

1 Attachment(s)
Earlier this week, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was accused of failing to help teammate Jimmy Graham's free-agent cause when he described Graham as a tight end instead of a wide receiver.

So Brees made it clear that he fully supports Graham on Friday by standing on radio host Dan Patrick's desk and shouting, "I want Jimmy Graham back!"

This is amusing.

Re: Drew Stands On Desk To Support Signing Graham

A better way to show support might be to offer the Saints some of his salary back so the team can sign Graham's contract without crippling the team's efforts to resign existing players and go after needed free agents.

Or maybe standing on a desk will help, what do I know?

I hope he don't go and start doing stuff to make him look more stupid. This is bad enough. Keep it classy!!

Realistically, we can't restructure him until next year, The cost would kill us in the long run.

Or you and all your friends and family can volunteer to donate a portion of your income (for the remainder of your careers) so they can sign him.

I'd rather stand on a desk.

I think we already do that by buying tickets to the games, which go up every year.

Good, Jimmy can snap the ball to drew then run out for a pass, just like back on the block!

So let me get this straight....Brees was "accused of failing to help Graham's free-agent cause" because he called him a ****in tight end?

What the hell? He is a tight end!

In that respect we should start paying PT and Sproles wide receiver money because they catch so many passes.

The NFL is getting ridiculous.

I'm all for Graham getting his payday but this is getting stupid. Wtf is Brees supposed to call him? A tight receiver? How about a wide end? Jesus the guy plays TIGHT END!

If PT and Sproles lined up wide on the line twice as often as they line up in the backfield, they would have a legitimate claim to being called a wide receiver. And I suspect they would make that claim if it meant $4 million more per year.

Re: Drew Stands On Desk To Support Signing Graham

Utah my point was that the story said that Brees basically screwed Jimmy over by calling him a Tight End. What is he supposed to call him. I know Jimmy will get paid and good for him. But he's still a "tight end". That's his position and no one should be said to be dicking him by calling him the position he plays. All I'm saying.

OK, I misunderstood. You're right. What was he supposed to say?

The only thing I have to add to that is... Amen.

It's been 2 years now can people stop complaining about Drew's income?
The day will coem when he retires and we'll wish we had another QB like him. I wish fans would stop being so cheap and realize talent cost money and if we don't pay for it someone else will.
Not everyone wants to give a hometown discount

I want a camera to follow around the people who say "keep it classy" 24/7 for a whole year so we can see the embodiment of class. Oh how I hate that phrase...

does everyone get the picture now?

The dude will be tagged unless he has an agent that believes in the future of the team. as if! cap wise tagging him is the smart move and next year Drew can step up and redo his contract without further killing of the cap.

The question will be this. Will grahams contract put us behind an 8 ball like Drews has?

I still have issues with Elite in Grahams case. In big games Elite players do not lay goose eggs. You expect a play or two from them at the very least from them.

jimmy has a history of laying eggs in these type of games

I want to keep Graham...
But I really don't think his last 2 years were elite.
I'm not for paying him as such.

Do you think JG is an "elite" TE?

He's good, maybe even great. I don't know.
I just wouldn't classify him as "elite".
Guess thats why I'm an electrician and not football coach/agent

There's legitimate argument to be made either way.

The thing about Graham is, he really shouldn't be considered a TE. They don't bring him in on blocking downs and he only lines up tight on 1/3 of the plays he's in.

If he's a TE he's top 3 at his position. If he's a receiver he's arguably top 15 top 20...maybe even worse. That boy ain't no WR just because he doesn't block well.

No, he's a wide receiver because he plays the wide receiver position twice as often as he plays tight end.

Compared to all receivers Jimmy was
1st in touchdowns
9th in plays over 20 yards
13th in receptions
15th in total yards

Compared to TEs Jimmy was
1st in touchdowns
1st in plays over 20 yards
1st in receptions
1st in yards

Jimmy is "elite" vs soft competition, but we need someone to show up in big games.

No. He is an average 3rd string blocking TE. Probably should just play special teams.
