2014 Cap #?

Tom Pelissero ‏@TomPelissero · 11m
I'm told the 2014 salary cap will be set as soon as tomorrow, most likely by Monday, and barring an unexpected audit it'll be $132M-$133M.

Re: 2014 Cap #?

PFT's source said $135 million, maybe higher. Never heard of this Tom Pellissero but PFT generally has good sources (even though a lot of their bloggers are a-holes.)

Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source

Somewhere Loomis is backloading a contract as we speak. Nice big increase in the cap just as Brees, Colston, Grubbs and Evans contracts are running out.One last push for thos current team then a major reload with huge cap space.

Now we can get some work done! Loomis has a very busy night ahead of him.

Re: 2014 Cap #?

that's a 10 million increase over last year

That puts us roughly 15 million under the cap?

Very curious to know where we stand now that it's official.

According to overthecap we're currently 1.6 million under.

But they are using the TE franchise figure for Jimmy's cap hit.

That factors in the Graham franchise tag at 7 mil, so we were roughly 9 mil under before...

Re: 2014 Cap #?

So regardless of whether Jimmy is franchised as a TE or a WR we still have a lot of work to do salary cap-wise. This is gonna get interesting. I think we may be in for some dramatic moves.

Re: 2014 Cap #?

The Graham deal will get dobe with a low cap hit in the first year and Brees will open up the space next year and Cam Jordan will be sorted.

Re: 2014 Cap #?

Presently we are 8.1m under the cap.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/cap-hit/

I wouldn't expect that number to budge much if any until AFTER negotiations or what ever with Jimmy reach a certain point.

Loomis has a stack of restructures on his desk but isn't going to do anything just yet.

One doesn't tell a person he is about to haggle with that he just found 6 MORE million dollars.

You go into Graham like we are now, just over the TE FT, and you NEVER tell Jimny he isn't worth 12m, you just tell him we only have 8m.

:)

Well, that gives us a little more to work with. Those first four cuts hurt but we needed the money.

That is with out jimmy's tag. Jimmy was not tagged with a position so there is no $ amount to assign, and he has not signed any tag tender so we will not see a cap hit until both happen.

According to overthecap, we're 1.6 under the cap, and they're currently using 7 million (TE) for Jimmy's cap hit. Add 5 million to that figure if he wins the WR designation.

OTC is premature in assigning a value and no tender has been offered to Jimmy yet.

1. The Saints don’t designate the position.

Despite reports suggesting that the Saints would be tagging Graham as a tight end, the Saints simply apply the tag generically. The NFL Management Council will determine whether to apply the $7.035 million tight end franchise tender or the far more lucrative $12.315 million receiver franchise tender.

True, I'm just saying that OTC is using TE tag numbers to arrive at their 1.6 under number. I'm sure its just an estimate.

We'll be 3.4 over if he's given the WR tag.
