Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Yes. One of the corners I've been preaching about. He could be a huge bonus for us after he serves his four game suspension. And yeah it was for weed in a state where it's legal, plus a majority of the league does it and are in the process of researching it's positive effect on concussions. So that shouldn't matter. And with the leadership of the locker room, they will keep him straight. So that shouldn't be a problem.
Anyways he is a big physical corner that can shut down a top receiver. Has experience with the leagues best defense last year and brings the smash mouth mentality we need. He would be a huge bonus for us. Only downfall is he will miss those first four games, but the first four aren't as important as the last four. We have Robinson and white to get is by til then. I'm all for Browner. |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Sign him. Add to the Bird Bath defense.

Larry Holder @LarryHolder 59s
There's interest from the #Saints in CB Brandon Browner, but Browner hasn't confirmed a visit yet with the team, according to a source. If he ends up here that is one hell of a backfield. Draft a good WR/C/RT and try and get Aaron Colvin with one of the 5th rounders if he is still there and its a monster roster. |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
I don't like this at all. I've not read through all post in this thread. But I wonder how many of you feel the same way that I do. Browner is a repeat offender of the substance abuse policy, and will miss the first four games of the season in 14. I'm not saying you can't be a good teammate and a positive locker room presence with a drug issue... but do you really want this type of situation in the clubhouse???
At 6-4 220 lbs he is a physical presence that would further help our secondary. But Browner has too many issues to my liking. Plus, we need help along the offensive line more than we need another corner. |

talk about a mix bag of tricks then you bring him to a city like new orleans? stranger things have worked out before. better put him on a cheap short leash and make sure there is no dead money involved with that contract

lmao really The knew when they drafted the kid he was a punk with a bad past and actually thought throwing money at him was a positive thing. The Pats do have a good track history with bad apples. but they blew it big time there. Rumor out here on the east coast has yet another 1 year deal in the making. the pats are going to make that title push next year. but nothing signed yet |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Yeah they generally do well as do the Bengals, well they calm some down.
Looks like Wilfork is going so they will have a few more pennies to spend. Its like the cold war all over again. The Saints, Broncos, Pats all tooling up to kill the west coast |

LMAO Vince walking? The pats not milking a value contract? They are going to hold Vince to that $7.5 million contract this year. that my impression. he will leave as a free agent next year. only chance he has is failing his physical. Pats know his value to this defense. plus he would not be the first player the pats have done this to. he walks unhappy damaged and a few years left in the tank. The pats milked him for all they can and got lucky with the contract dollars yet again in the final year. they take the Comp pick. now a trade for Vince will have to be solid in the pats favor or it aint happening. typical pats BAU |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Vince asked for a released because they are pushing him to take a cut.

Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
There is only $3.5ml in dead money so with a 11ml+ cap hit they can free up some big money
Vince Wilfork asks New England Patriots to release him Gregg Rosenthal Around The League Editor +Follow on Twitter ***SHARE Vince Wilfork's 10-year run in New England as the face of the*Patriots' defense could be coming to an end soon. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport broke the news Thursday that Wilfork has*asked for his release, according to sources informed of the situation. The*Patriots*approached Wilfork about restructuring his contract, and it*was a nonstarter. Wilfork, who turns 33 in November, is coming off a torn Achilles tendon. He's due $7.5 million in 2014 with a salary-cap charge of $11.6 million. He signed a big five-year contract extension with the team back in 2010. Wilfork appeared to be playing hurt at the start of the 2013 season, when he struggled. It's not a surprise the*Patriots*wanted to address his contract, and it's not a surprise that Wilfork didn't take that news well. He's been a standout player and a leader on and off the field. The*Patriots' decision to approach Wilfork about adjusting the contract has beaten down Wilfork, according to Rapoport. One could see Wilfork asking for his release as a way to take control of the process. He's essentially trying to speed up the process so he can hit the open market and sign with a new team. We do not think this has*any relation to the signing*of*Darrelle Revis. The Wilfork process was already underway before the*Patriots*knew they could get Revis. In reality, the*Patriots*are just doing business like they always have. They unemotionally set prices on players, even leaders like Wilfork. Based on his injury and age, they don't think he's worth $7.5 million. That's harsh, but he hardly will be the first*Patriots*player to leave town in ugly fashion. Wilfork wants to continue playing, and he will surely find another job. He'll play for a few more seasons, retire and then one day get inducted into the*Patriots*Hall*of*Fame. |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
but they have done this game before and till they have a player in place that can plug the middle i do not see it happening. asking for a pay cut sure but at 7.5 mill he is still a bargain if all test out ok. if he does leave healthy and under a solid contract number the pats nation will shocked and well talk radio here will be a buzz at least till celtics get there ping ball numbers.
do you think 7.5 mill for vince wilfork in the final year of a contract is too much? In reality, the*Patriots*are just doing business like they always have. They unemotionally set prices on players, even leaders like Wilfork. Based on his injury and age, they don't think he's worth $7.5 million. this is so far from the truth it amazes me. without vince they learned their defense blows in the middle. they have no players to even plug the holes. now if they had some one in place then sure i can see the truth |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Me, no I like the big man.
Cant stand the Pats but I was cheering him on after that interception he got a couple of years back, really wanted him to return it for a TD. Thing is tjough 7.5ml is fine but the cap hit is 11.6 mill and if cut they could opens them up to making a big play somewhere. Would they out a offer in for Graham? . Its not the way they normally do things but neither is signing Revis. They woild have the cap space snd they cant gauretee Gronks health. Let Brady spend his finsl 2-3 years with a real target every play. |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
a salary-cap charge of $11.6 million
i missed that sorry. but they still would end up with a major whole in the middle that makes all that money spent on CB a waste of time. teams will run on them just like last year. it will be interesting to see what happens. i will have to listen to talk radio here. it will be funny when the hard core boston fans go off with that accent. |

Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Details on Darrelle Revis' contract*By Mike Reiss | March 13, 2014 12:35:38 PM PDT
An important wrinkle has been learned about the contractDarrelle Revis*has agreed to with the Patriots.* It has widely been reported as a one-year, $12 million deal, which is accurate. Revis will earn $12 million this season.* But for salary-cap accounting purposes, and to protect Revis from being assigned the franchise tag in 2015, the sides have added a second year to the pact in 2015 that would pay Revis $20 million and count $25 million against the salary cap.* The $20 million is an astronomical figure, as is the $25 million cap charge. That makes it unlikely the Patriots would pay it, thus making Revis an unrestricted free agent in 2015 or one of the highest-paid players in football.* The second year helps the Patriots spread out the salary-cap charges for Revis over two seasons instead of taking one $12 million salary-cap hit in 2014. Revis' cap charge for 2014 is now $7 million.* Here is a breakdown of the deal for those into specifics:* 2014* Cap value:*$7M* Cash value:*$12M* Signing bonus:*$10M* Roster bonus:*$500K ($33.33K per game if on 46-man roster up to 15 games)* Base salary:*$1.5M* 2015* Cap value:*$25M* Cash value:*$20M* Roster bonus-1:*$12M (earned on April 1, 2015, if club exercises option prior to end of 2014 league year)* Roster bonus-2:*$500,000 ($33.33K per game if on 46-man roster up to 15 games)* Base salary:*$7.5M |

"'ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweeted news of the signing before Schefter pulled back his report and quoted Browner’s agent, Peter Scaffer, who said he was still negotiating with “four teams and we do not have a deal. We aren’t even close.”" Report: Patriots add Brandon Browner - Sports - The Boston Globe |

Albert Breer saying that Browner cancelled visit to Washington.
I think he ends up at Pats as the can pay that little bit more |
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
I think if we'd signed him I just can't imagine being able to keep Jimmy. But Mickey has a knack for making it happen
|
Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
If they structure the deal like Byrds but 6 years $60ml you are looking at a cap hit of $4.5ml plus the $2.8 free now leaves $5.3ml. He would have to be well under a $1ml in a cap hit in 2014 to work. Possible.

Re: John Clayton say saints interested in Brandon Browner
Negotiations also are occurring with the Saints and Raiders for Browner. While his four-game suspension to start the season could be regarded as an impediment, his availability for the offseason program, training camp, and the preseason allows him to be fully prepared for his return.
