AJ McCarron in late rounds?
Nick Saban: Passing on A.J. McCarron would be a huge mistake | ProFootballTalk
Sigh... yes, I know another Bama player. But he might make sense in the late rounds if he were available. |

It seems we have many needs that don't start with the letter Q.

Re: AJ McCarron in late rounds?
He wont be there at the end of the 3rd for us IMO, especially after he had a very good pro day.

BPA... stay the course of BPA.
Hey if he is there where they like him at and don't have to reach for him I am ok with it. |
Re: AJ McCarron in late rounds?
Do not burn a draft pick on a QB that will not be here when Drew retires. Doesn't matter how good he is, it will not help us when he is gone in three years and signs his second contract for more than we will pay a BU QB. We are in that transition period where a BU QB experiment is a waste of picks but a starting QB will not be here when we need him.
We all saw what happened with Chase Daniel, the same will happen if we draft a QB this season. If Drew goes down in the middle of a season there are plenty of FA QBs with experience that can get the job done, and I would prefer we do not throw a rookie without play time to the wolves in week 11 if needed. No one argues Drew has at least 4 seasons left, so a QB drafted this season would be gone the year before Drew retires if that happens 4 years from now. Next season is prime however for drafting the next Saints QB, he would get his rookie year to learn, his sophomore year to get some time when we have a lead, and he can be phased in his Jr. year while Drew is phased out. This way when he signs his second contract we know what we are signing as a starting QB. With all the needs we have right now I just do not see it optimal to burn a draft pick on a second QB to ride the bench. :bng: |
