Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig

The Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig this week.

The Saints currently have no fullbacks on the roster after declining to tender RFA Jed Collins. Lorig offers more versatility as a receiver than Collins.

I guess we've moved on from Collins.

I really had hoped we were gonna re-sign Jed. Damn.

Lorig is younger with more upside. I like the idea.

Easy to find better for cheaper than Collins...

UDFA J.C. Copeland

He brings pain.

Jed dropped some easy catches in 2013. Sean loves that FB play on 3rd down. (not very successful in 2013)

Re: Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig

tendering Collins would have been insane- he would have tripled his salary, and we can't pay $2 mill for a FB

He can play DL also, in a pinch.

Good.

I am not a fan of Collins and thought we could do better at the FB position.

6 of one, half dozen of the other.

Lorig's taller, that's about the only difference. Oh, and he's cheaper.

The word is he's a better receiver out of the backfield than Jed.

I still like Austin Johnson, but we need to see more obviously.

This season cheaper is a huge plus, we don't need a blocking full back, we need one with hands like a Woodhead.

More versatility as a receiver?

J.C. Copeland 5111 275 and runs a 4.98 40? that is freaking wild. I just wonder if the bowling ball is a better receiver than people give him credit for? need you homers to chime in on that one. but for those looking for a power running game he is a great start

Yea Jed was money most of the time. His cap hit can't be that high.

Yea but if we are going to try and run a more power run game along with bigger receivers like a lot of people are thinking wouldn't we want more of a blocking FB? We already have Pierre who can catch. Not saying a cheaper option isn't needed.

I second this motion. This dude is an offensive guard in the backfield. Maybe he could help open some holes for the Saints tailbacks. The Saints need J.C. Copeland, Odell Beckam Jr, Jarvis Landry and Ego Ferguson.

Who cares in these's days you can get any fullbacks can he block and catch out the backfield.

We used to have a guy like that. His name was Mike Karney and he was replaced because he was too one-dimensional.

Go back and watch 2013. We ran better with out a lead blocker/FB.

Re: Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig

I really like JC Copeland. He says he likes laying people out more than scoring. With the possibility of a power run game, I like that mentality. If anything,he would be useful giving Brees protection in the backfield.

Re: Saints hosted free agent FB Erik Lorig

Copeland would also be nice on 3rd and short or goal line plays.

Well if Grambeaux could actually block once in a while, maybe his pick up is not needed.
