Saints sign S Marcus Ball
 

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have agreed to terms with safety Marcus Ball on a three-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Ball, 6-1, 209, played two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League after finishing his college career at the University of Memphis. In two seasons with Toronto, he recorded 142 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns and three fumble recoveries. In 2013, Ball posted 69 stops, four sacks and three interceptions for the Argonauts.

The Atlanta native played his final two college seasons for the Tigers as their starting free safety, recording 66 tackles (35 solo) and two interceptions as a senior in 2010. He started his career at Florida State where he appeared in 13 games in 2006 and 2007 and then transferred to Memphis after playing the 2008 season at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College. Overall in four seasons with the Seminoles and Tigers, he ended his college career with 145 tackles (73 solo), five interceptions and one sack.

Most likely not guaranteed with the Saints owning an option. They must have a good feeling about him, but want to see what he can truly bring to the table. Nothing to lose, everything to gain on a player willing to do anything to get into the league.

This is just my guess.

It's hard to say how good he will be for us, because I know the competition isn't up to the standards of the NFL in the CFL, but from what I've seen of this guy... he looks rather impressive. Wouldn't be surprised if this is another diamond in the rough signing, where the guy performs much higher than the expectations.

Some ball hawking skills
Physical tackling
Can rush the passer

If you go by 40's, he's our 2nd fastest S on the team behind Bush's 4.48

That sack at 1:10 was the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. Im guessing this will be our safety that improves the run game looks like hes always aware of where the ball is going and ontop of everything also mega big hits, so not much breaking a tackle with this guy. i sure as hell wouldnt wanna get hit by him

I like it... I'm hoping that Bush signs his tender in the near future. It would be nice to have a stable of play making safeties on the 2014 roster.

And it was a broken bone, not soft tissue. A broken bone is FAR less problematic than a tear or even a severe sprain. I have no doubt he'll be back at 100% very soon.

If I remember correctly, Stephania Bell, the ESPN fantasy injury guru, said that the type of break is almost always 100% recoverable with no lingering side effects.

He is the replacement for Harper not Bush who the saints MUST find the money for faclowns two year deal.

I don't see it that way; if that was the case then he would have started when Harper was injured last year. Since Vaccaro started in Harpers stead, I think it's safe to assume that he is the replacement and will start
