Champ Bailey: 'I’m going to try to be a part of something special'
 

First in free agency, the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with the best safety on the market, Jairus Byrd, a current Pro Bowler.

Most recently, on Friday, the defensive backfield got better and deeper when the Saints agreed to terms with one of the best cornerbacks in league history, likely Hall of Famer Champ Bailey.

The 35-year-old Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowler with 52 career interceptions, agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Saints, allowing him to join the likes of Byrd, cornerback Keenan Lewis and safety Kenny Vaccaro in the Saints' secondary.

“I have a little more to my game, I believe, especially mentally,” Bailey said. “I can see things a lot easier, a lot of things come up that I’ve had experience with. That only helps your game. I’m using that to my advantage as much as possible because I know how much you’ve got to be mentally ready for this well, as well as physically ready.

“When you have a lot of young, energetic guys that want to prove that they belong in this game and prove that they’re one of the best – you’ve got a young Kenny Vaccaro, how much is Jairus Byrd going to help him? How much can I help them? How much can they help me? I just like the situation I’m going into because I know these guys are going to be hungry and we can all be biting each other’s style as far as what it’s going to take to be great. And I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Man... The more I hear, the more I go from skeptical to giddy! It's still just so hard to believe that guys like Jairus Byrd and Champ Bailey would choose to sign with the Saints... Times have certainly changed.

Champ is and has always been a class act. The Broncos letting him go was t easy and Elway has nothing but great things to say about him.

That is exactly what I understood as well. He knows he no longer is the top dog as far as CB's but he knows how he can help Keenan reach a level that will benefit not only The Saints but himself. I mean Champ on a #2 or #3 receiver is Champ all day. Keenan was already a #1 now with Champ to improve his technique its a wrap!! I just want Champ to stay healthy and we're automatically better than last year.

Im not over the moon, but I get it. It does so much for us in terms of leadership, depth, training of younger DBs who can be coached up. I think for the most part we get the most out of champ by not characterizing which receiver he lines up against... He'll be placed on everyone... fill in here and there coach up the young Dbs including Keenan. It also means Saints won't have to rush to draft a DB to fill what they feel is there most pressing need, and the DB that they bring in for that #2 spot ( Hopefully Stanley Jean Baptiste ) will get a model view of what a class act DB looks like...

I can remember when we were looking at signing him about 4 years ago, but Denver wasn't ready to let go of him. Here is an interesting question though: is he better than Revis?

Good question. I have a feeling Revis was just in the wrong system with the wrong team. I think he will be better this year.

Nah. He's not better then Revis. Career vs career though, Champ is second only to Prime for me.

remember that guy named sharper, he brought skill and the right attitude to help bring a record pick offs in a season and if I remember a championship ring, now we get bailey to follow that up. im getty uped.

Corey White stands to benefit the most from this...Hopefully Champ takes a liking to him and pulls him under his wing.
