Jonathan Goodwin

I thought we might make a big slash in free agency this year. I know a lot of people didn't think we would but I kind of thought we would.
If we can get Goody back for the right price I would love to have him back if he can still produce.
I would like to see us sign Goody, WR in first Cb in second and ot in third. Although now that we have Baily it wouldn't hurt my feelings if the CB position was addressed 3rd or later.

There's no market for DLP so I'm assuming that DLP and Goodwin would have a similar cost... I'd rather sign the one that is not completely washed up.

washed up

I'm not convinced Goodwin is 'washed up'. Yes he is up in age but is still a very productive player for the Niners. After watching a few of their games last year, hardly did I ever hear his name called. For an O lineman, this is always a good thing.

He could be back in New Orleans or retires.

Different animals protecting a pocket passer like Brees and protecting a scrambling QB like Kaepernick.

With a scrambling QB it's run blocking a majority of the time. You won't hear a name called then.

He doesn't fit out Offense.

I was against him when he was here and sure enough he was let go because he he wasn't the C for us. I don't care to have him back at all.

Re: Johnathon Goodwin

I kinda get the feeling that a light bulb went off with Payton last year, where he was worried about left tackle in the summer and sure enough it came back to bite him late in the season....and I think they now want to quit fooling around and put together the serious O line that will protect Brees the rest of his future time here. I believe De La Puente may be here next year or may be gone, could go either way, but I think especially after the Oliln Kreutz debacle, I predict they will tend to go younger from now on, in the line, with an eye towards maximizing that remaining 3-5 year window with Brees.

Re: Johnathon Goodwin

Wasn't he the center when we won the ship and had thr best line in the league? Yeah, I'd be cool with him coming back. He fit the system well enough for us to win it all.

Yeah, and while we're at it let's go sign up a bunch of other people that were good for us for 5 years ago too!

Well, as long as some of you keep your old avatar's on and don't put up hot chicks, don't expect things to change. If you want something, change your avatar and Mickey will work his magic. Im just sayin :)

He was good for us 5 years ago and good for San Francisco the last 4. The same team who's been in at least the NFC Championship for the last 3 years. It's a difference between being older and being washed up.

Ask 49ers fans what they think of him, I guarantee they won't tell you he's been good for them the last couple of years, AKA, he's washed up.

No thanks. I liked him when he was here but we are getting younger.

Re: Johnathon Goodwin

I'm all for the youth movement, but that doesn't mean you don't add cheap veterans. You can't find a young, deserving player to fill every spot on the football field. It's just not going to happen. You'll never be able to build the perfect team. Seattle wasn't perfect. They're offense was flawed. Same goes for Baltimore before them. And so on and so forth. I see a lot of, "draft our starting center in the 3rd", and **** like that. This isn't Madden. You don't get to the see the player ratings after you draft him. I mean if we really want a youth movement then Grubbs, Evans, Strief, Brees, Thomas, Watson, and Colston all need to go. But that would be dumb, because you need veteran guys. Signing a 35 year old center who knows the system, knows our QB, knows our coach, knows our RG, and knows how to win to a 1-year deal for a million or two won't hurt our youth movement one bit.
