Clemson offensive line prospect Brandon Thomas tears ACL in workout with New Orleans Saints, report says
 

Clemson guard Brandon Thomas sustained a torn ACL in his knee during a private workout with the New Orleans Saints last week, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The 6-foot-3, 317-pound guard was projected to be a third- or fourth-round pick in May's NFL draft. The Saints are in the market for depth on the offensive line with the departures of center Brian de la Puente and tackle Charles Brown.

Tim Lelito served as the backup at center and both guard positions last season, but he's slated to be the starter at center in 2014 with de la Puente leaving for Chicago.

WOW.that really sad news on his part.If he was a third or fourth rounder thats got to drop him right down into the 5-7 rounds now. Horrible news

I think he goes un-drafted now. Maybe the saints give him a UDFA spot.

Cant see it,one of the teams with a few picks late on will take a shot and even IR him for the year. I would be happy the saints doing it with him or Colvin.Even if you do not see them this year thats two quality players that will have benefit from being around NFL players for a year and getting the playbooks down and ready to go a year after

Some people felt he could sneak into the bottom of the first round. Injury sucks for him but he's not going to fall out the draft. I think he still gets drafted somewhere in the mid rounds. He's a OL that tore an ACL... not a WR or CB which would be way more concerning.

He has talent and a torn ACL. He wont drop out of the draft but prospective teams that need a this year starter may pass him by.

This is one of those items where you can either separate business from emotions or not and decide... Do the Saints draft him feeling he is damn good and a small obligation because he was hurt while trying out for us, or do they keep looking for a 2014 starter?

We have an extra 5th round pick and two Pro Bowl guards. If he even last that long, he'd make a high upside option at a position we can afford to wait on. A year or two from now he could become one of Grubbs or Evans' replacement.

We shouldn't feel obligated to spend a draft pick on him because he hurt himself here. We should draft him if we feels he's the BPA at the time or whether or not he can be helpful to us in the future. Obviously we like him if not we wouldn't have brought him in here. So if the pick is right, he makes as a very sensible pick.

I would spend a 6th on him. I saw him going in the early 2nd in some mocks. Kid could be a stud. Steal him in the 6th and sign him cheap. He could wind up starting in 2015.

I personally have had enough HURT players.

Sorry to hear he hurt himself, it's a shame and I really hate it for the kid, but I'll pass on taking him.

I would be concerned that he hurt himself in a non-contact drill, but if he's still available late or as a UDFA, sign him up and we'll see what he's got next year. It's the classy thing to do and costs you almost nothing.

Feel bad for him. Draft a month away and having such a bad injury. He would probably make a good project to have in the locker room learning everything this year if we can pick him up late or as a UDFA.

I hate for that to happen to the guy. What I wonder is if they have some type of insurance that covers atleast rehab and stuff for him. I mean he is not employed yet but it did happen at an NFL function..?

dam that suxs. take a flyer on him late in the draft or as an UDFA and stick him on IR. we always seem to get a player each year we do that to.

Keep in mind these guys have been working out non-stop for awhile know preparing for these work outs. If he is a FA I'd sign him and put him on IR.

Sign him if possible and IR him. He can learn the system and be ready to start next year if he has the talent.
