Refresh my memory...

When LeCharles Bentley left the Saints to go to the Browns, he made a comment about, "...would rather sit out the season than play for the Saints." Which, he did, as he got injured.

But, what was it that got his panties in a wad in New Orleans?

I guess the talk of centers has made me think of him.

2005 was a different time for the Saints. Haslett was the HC, 3-13 record, Aaron brooks was QB... There is a lot left to be desired about that /his last season.

After his knee injury had healed he tried to return in 2008 and was g2g but asked to be released... Sounds a lot like his heart wasnt in it.

He also pissed-off Philly when he backed out of a deal to sign with the Browns.

Important to note that Bently was not very enthused about being drafted by the Saints.

Okay, thanks. I wasn't sure if it was just a case of a guy who didn't want to be here, or if the front office did something he didn't like.

Still, you have to be careful when you make those comments, you may have to live up to them.

Bentley was one of the most overrated Saints I can remember. He was a real good guard his rookie season and then they moved him to center where he stunk out loud. Seriously, it was unbelievable how terrible he was. It was enough to make me think he was trying to get benched.

As for the circumstances of his departure, I'm sure the Katrina year had a lot to do with it. But Haslett had a tendency to wear thin on players.

He should never have been moved to center. We love moving players to new positions they have no experience with.

We also had that little issue called Katrina, and 8 home games away from the dome. Rumors about relocating to San Antonio were everywhere, and fans were pissed off...

I'm sure he wasn't the only player that wanted out.

He stated he didn't like being drafted by New Orleans and Cleveland is his home town, he wanted to go home.
Bentley wanted out before Katrina

The Saints are not in negotiations with Pro Bowl C LeCharles Bentley, who has been absent from the Saints' workout regime all offseason. GM Mickey Loomis has put down an edict that he will not negotiate with players who are not reporting to Saints headquarters for voluntary workouts.

Except he had played center at Ohio St. and that's what he said he wanted to play in the NFL.

My general impression of Bentley (even back then) was always that he was kind of a whiner and malcontent. (I could be wrong but I think there was something about him and Will Smith getting in a fight over his supposed pouting/lack of effort). I was not disappointed to see him go.

Bentley straight up quit in '05. I remember watching him and the left guard (forget his name) just stand up at the snap and not even try to block anybody. Aaron Brooks may have sucked but at least he never quit. **** L'Charles Bently.

I remember that. It was funny and sad at the same time.
