Yahoo's take on our needs

Silva's analysis

Keenan Lewis emerged as a borderline shutdown corner in his first season with the Saints, but 32-year-old bookend Jabari Greer was a cap casualty, and 2010 first-rounder Patrick Robinson is a bust. Despite the addition of short-term fix Champ Bailey, cornerback could easily be GM Mickey Loomis' first-round target. Bailey turns 36 in two months. Defensive boss Rob Ryan utilizes press-man concepts in the back end, so expect New Orleans to target a big, physical corner in the draft.

WR not in our top 3 needs?

Thats interesting.

Not too bad, but I noticed that she missed the concept that we are favoring. The 3-3-5. While I agree that we could use a playmaker in the LB corps and also agree that we need another talent to put opposite Galette, we also need that fast, athletic ILB that can flow sideline to sideline and also cover TE's coming across the short middle, and RB's coming out of the backfield and bubble screens. Lofton is our run enforcer in the middle and he's good, but he lacks size and speed. If RR gets an ILB like Christian Jones, who is not really being looked at for what he can truely provide for a defense like ours, we will get a steal when we pick him. He has the speed to cover WR's on the quick slant, TE's on hooks and crosses and the speed to close on RB's coming out into bubble screens and flat screens. This will free up our safties and CB's to really clamp down on teams WR's.

If you go back and look at the Dome Patrol, we had Jackson as the Sam, Mills as the run stopper, Vaughn Johnson as the short middle cover and run stopper and Swilling as the speed rusher. If we can add both an OLB with speed and physicality and an ILB like Christian, we could have an even better LB corps than the Dome Patrol and a better D across the board.

Needs vs Wants are often misconstrued.

That's a pretty bold statement.

The Dome patrol is considered by many to be the best linebacking corp in the history of the NFL.

We don't have anyone near Jackson or Mills' ability. It would be a very solid group though.

1. Center
2.WR
3. Kicker

I still think Champ is better than 1/2 the CB's starting in the league. Greer will be back and we will take a de/OLB maybe with the first 2 picks

agreed but there is one player in the draft that reminds me a of swilling

Jeremiah Attaochu, DE/OLB, Georgia Tech

Take some time and google some of the longer videos and watch him work through wash on both sides of the ball. probably the best in the draft. that part of his game really reminds me of swilling. he not swilling but impressive

there will never be a dome patrol again. they were among the best ever

LOL at Patrick Robinson being a bust. Not that I would expect strong insight from somebody writing for Yahoo Sports, but at least pretend to do your homework.

Agreed.

In order for someone to be a bust they'd have to really underperform in relation to the expectations the organization has/had for the said player. For example, the said player never making the active 53. Therefore, I would never call Robinson a bust.

At least that's my opinion.

Id even say thats a tad harsh. A bust to me is any early pick that is so bad they don't see any playing time and/or are out of the league in 2 or 3 years.

Jonathan Sullivan and JaMarcus Russell are busts.

Patrick Robinson (one pick from a 2nd rounder) is not even remotely a bust.

Also, a player that simply doesn't live up to the media's hype is not a bust. Reggie Bush didn't live up to his hype, but is hardly a bust.

Re: Yahoo's take on our needs

Robinson had one back-and-forth year (rookie year to be expected), then one great year when he practically was our #1 cornerback. Then a crappy year when everybody stunk under Spagnuolo, so that gets thrown out. Then looked great last year before getting injured. I don't know how anyone would conclude "bust" from that.

The same guy who thinks our top two team needs are on the defense...

I wouldn't say he's a disappointment either. Other than 2012 when the whole defensive scheme was whack and everybody stunk, he's been just about exactly what you would expect from a young corner.

Robinson must stay healthy. Bailey will be knocking on the door.
