I look for Saints to only sign two more players before draft

With roster now at 62 players 2nd fewest total in nfl with 7 draft picks will bring roster to 69 players add Goodwin a center an Pugh a saftey who i think will be signed before draft brings roster up to 71 players add 19 rookie ufda players an that will be training camp 90 player roster.I think 5 draft picks make 53 roster along with 5 ufda rookies also make 53 final roster.:bng::dunce::whatever:

saints short of nfl draft picks totals last few years need to if anything trade down for an 8th pick.Only if some player they have on a top 10 list somehow drops to say being there say at pick 22 would i even consider a trade up.i ok with droping out of first round to say pick 34 for extra picks along with a 4th an 5th round picks.:cool:

I thought Pugh had already signed.......guess not, but soon I hope. We are going to have some serious safeties.
If five draft picks and five udfa's make the team that would be a substantial turnover. Right now we have 62 and have to get down to 53 players for kick off. That's nine at least that are gone from our current roster. This off season has been very busy.

I would love to see them sign Goodwin, greer and pugh and then take a de/olb with our first pick then trade all other picks except our extra 6th for the highest pick we can get and draft the best wr on the board. with the extra 6th we get our next center/og.

We have an extra 5th not 6th. No need to do this . This draft is very deep at WR. We don't need to trade all our picks to get a good one. We already tried that once. Didn't work out to good.

As of the moment, it doesn't look like anyone's signed Pugh. Could be we're waiting until after the draft to see what we still need.

One thought is that we're so tight up against the salary cap, that we may just trade up so that we don't have so many draft picks to pay. We could make up the later picks with UDFA's which we seem to do so well with. Just something that I've been thinking about. This would allow us to move up to get a Darquez Dennard or a Gilbert or even an OBJ. All I know is that we need to knock this draft out of the park and we need playmakers with our first 3 picks, not just starters, playmakers. If we can pull that off, I'd say Super Bowl.

Jeanpierre was saying the same thing on another thread. It sure does make a lot of sense. The questions I have about that are, is there really any such thing as a sure bet in the draft? And is that sure thing a position we really need? We could also use the shotgun approach, draft as many bodies as we can and then cut'em before they affect our cap position.

Sigh, how many weeks until draft day?

Re: I look for Saints to only sign two more players before draft

last year the qb from tulane-the hb from small texas college-the te from idaho-og/oc letio grandvalley-de gem ,foster illinois-mlb reddick-cb sweeting georgia tech hmmm thats 7 ufda players on 53 roster so saints keep best young players with payton as he knows they need to get younger an cheaper.so yes i think 5 ufda an 5 picks out of 7 draft picks make 53 roster.Back in 2007 when payton cut the hb from ohio state who he traded up in 4th round for to keep pierre thomas undrafted rookie out of illinois i says to myself holy shttt hes a rare head coach with the balls to keep best players. After this the ufda players agents told the players the saints are one of the few nfl teams who do not care where or how you get to training camp that payton gives everyplayer a fair chance to make the 53 roster. This is why despite having far fewer the nfl total of draft picks the last few years the saint still keep in top 25% of teams. However i would like the saints trade down somewhere to get a 8th pick after all with 32 compensotory picks the draft is 8 rounds so they need to have one more pick to get a fair share of picks.

You guys need to spend a little more time with your families... of all the things to debate this is a new one.

If the Saints sign Goodwin an pugh then from a roster of then 64 players you could cut to 53 with no big gaps this would allow saints to draft best players on draft board with highest grade an use ufdas to fill in 90 player training camp roster in positions short of numbers.

Theoretically the Saints could sign 10 before the draft, as long as the contract isn't guaranteed it's no harm. They can all be cut.
