What Is The Best Off Season Move By Mickey Loomis?

Mickey has been busier in free agency than usual even though we entered the off season tight against the cap. He released a slew of veterans and either signed or resigned several key free agents. Now we can go into the draft without any major holes to fill.

Last year Keenan Lewis was the best move that happened during free agency in my opinion. I believe that he was a major part in Ryan being able to turn around this defense.

In your opinion what was the best off season move by Mickey Loomis this year? :bng:
Who Dat!

Jairus Byrd, and no one else is even close.

Yeah Jairus Byrd easily, the falcons fans reaction to us signing him was priceless aswell, made the moment all that much better

I agree on Byrd. Sproles trade is second for me personally. As soon as the season was over I thought it was time to replace him. He looked great in a couple of games, but it was the scheme getting him wide open. Most of the year I felt like he was lacking his burst & quick twitch. In any case, I'm surprised we did it & even more surprised we got something in return.

Alrighty then. Byrd is obviously the best answer. Who is the second best transaction then?

Getting rid of all the dead weight was his best move and probably his hardest decision. He showed that he and the FO will stay ahead of the curve when changes need to be made instead of keeping players that are passed their prime or won't fit into the changes.
Byrd was his best player acquisition and keeping Pierre was a good move.

I think the Bunkley pay cut was pretty impressive.

As harsh as it might sound I think its a good thing Moore was cut.

No. Actually doing it would have been evil. I only suggested someone ELSE do it, which limits me to merely devious.

I choose the Bailey signing as both the best and worse move.
we'll see in 6 months

Re: What Is The Best Off Season Move By Mickey Loomis?

resigning Strief was huge for the saints
signing Byrd - still in shock
PT extension - is major because he is the only all around back we got

Matching Bush - very solid move
signing Eric Lorig - we know him and i can live with that
Haralson resigned - solid
Humber resigned - solid
Marcus Ball - no judgement yet he need to see the field first

jury is still out but it is a money thing
Sproles trade
Moore cut

The rest is just Mickey stroking the cap to make it work
Bunkley pay cut
Lewis restructure

Yeah, seems like a February question to me too.

I keep a running talley in my head but I don't assess my egg basket until the hunt is over.

Haha! And I'll have forgotten all of these moves by the end of August or so.

Has anyone seen my truck keys?

Re: What Is The Best Off Season Move By Mickey Loomis?

Byrd looks to be the best move; friends I do business with in Buffalo wished me and my Saints Bros well and hope his health holds up enough to warrant the contract - hmmmm, so I'll wait for the results...

Hope the Champ Bailey move works two-fold, in that Bailey is able to mentor and get Patrick Robinson on the right track to warrant his first round selection which, thus far, appears to have been another first round bust...

Was disappointed we didn't get younger, more athletic, at Right Tackle; like Zach Strief the man, just (smh) his game is painful to watch, kinda like watching Slim Pickens with Saddle Sore...

Really glad we brought back Meachem to be our No. 4 wide receiver; we're really just one dynamic receiver away from being truly special at that position...

Just really disappointed in the contracts we're hung with in Grubbs, Lofton and Hawthorne, but they may wash with the Keenan Lewis, Brodrick Bunkley and, maybe, Victor Butler signings...

Know Hagan has worried about the non-signing of a Center and based on our protection scheme, there's cause, but Payton must have confidence in Lelito's ability or something would have been done...

But there's no depth on the offensive line!!!

He hasn't made his best move yet. We still need a water boy, and I'm still available.

I look at C this way- we could have kept DLP for next to nothing, and said no thanks. We either think Lelito is ready or have a plan.
