Deone Bucannon at 27 we should have stayed put. he would have snapped those tall WR in half. grrrrrrrrrrrr

Cook has SP toy written all over him plus SP does not need to rewrite to much of his play book. Had a gut feeling about the mighty mouse early on.

It is that third round pick that is hard to swallow. man round 2 will be interesting,

I'm sure he doesn't give a rats ass what we think either...but I was just stating a fact for the last two receivers the Saints have drafted...I have no problem with taking him...I just have a problem that we moved up to draft a WR in a draft that is deep at that position....

Well one of those receivers was Meachem who was from a small school. They tried to duplicate Colston I think with that and it didnt work. Well actually Meachem has been moved around so much and he was contending with Colston at the beginning of his prime. If Meachem was to be the go-to who knows how he would have played. And I don't remember the other one.

I hope so....we really have to make this 2nd round pick count....wouldnt be too upset if they traded down now to get an extra pick...

There's a good chance we already have our number 2 corner on the roster, plus there's still guys like Jean-Baptiste available. I think WR was a position that we needed to address and this pick makes a ton of sense. Real excited for the second round.

6pm Central Time

Cooks is a combination of Sproles and Morgan. Let him grow on you, you'll love him.

We had the #4 defense and an offense that couldn't score when it needed to. This was the right pick.

If Tennessee is a small school?!?

Yeah, things due have to fall right as well for a player to be extraordinary...

But if Meachem was as talented as his pick had warranted, he would have overtaken Colston...

Real talent eventually rises to the top in the NFL...

Only thing is if/when that player gets hurt, by that rationale and it's legit, we've just lost two guys in one, oh well, part of the game and he's definitely a gamer...

Very special player though his size is of concern and with similar player on roster in Stills...

Have posted that am losing confidence in Brees armstrength ability to get the ball down field to receivers IN STRIDE so we'd be handicapping a new ability...

His height is a big concern for me; thinking Payton sees this rush to geaux to bigger corners and figures we'll geaux the other way so they can't keep up with our quicker, shifty receivers...

Problem is, refs are not going to throw ten (10) pass interferences calls in a game - see both @ Seattle games last season...

Welcome Cooksie, hoping you're ready for the Dome...

I think Cooks is a combination of DeSean Jackson/Percy Harvin/Tavon Austin without all of their issues.

I'm not sure about the Sproles comparison.

With the addition of Cooks, I think Toon could be the odd man out. Hopefully he worked hard in his preparation this off season.

I think this is exactly the Payton thinking, I felt it instantly last night like a shiver, the moment the Cooks pick sank in with me. The Saints looked SLOW and OLD on offense last year, in ALL of their bad games.

The way to BEAT SEATTLE is to be FAST, FASTER, and super dynamic and shifty -- they can't hold what they can't grab, they can't interfere with the empty air where a receiver was a split second ago, they can't swarm and blanket us, and contest the ball at both QB and receiver points (like Seattle did) if we're shifty. We can only slow these grab-happy, interfering defenses down, if they don't know where it's going or what's coming next....

This team could take the field right now yesterday without Cooks and be an 10 or 11 or 12 win team easy, at minimum....this guy will help the most against "better" opponents or deep playoff situations, or mark a philosophical return to the wide-open, anything-is-possible, "too many weapons" "who ya gonna stop" Sean Payton offense....

This pick makes TOTAL BRILLIANT SENSE if you look back at the specific "BAD" games that the Saints had last year, including the disappearing Jimmy Graham when the going got tough....this will even help with that. I'm stoked.

Thats who I thought Carolina was going to pick, I was so relieved when they picked Benjamin.

Pretty sure Lee won't have to wait long tonight.

If I'm Cleveland I'm salivating at the possibility of pairing Gordon with Lee. Gordon already demands double coverage and Lee can develop into that same type of player.

That would be just sick.

I hope so, I have a soft spot in my heart for Cleveland. They remind me so much of the Saints when we were the laughing stock of the entire league for the better part of 40 years.

They are the AFC-Saints.

Re: OFFICIAL - FIRST ROUND NFL LIVE DRAFT THREAD

With the way they're shaping up, I don't think it would be a bad idea for Cleveland to pick up McCarron or Murray later on in case Manziel bust... much like Washington did with RG3 and Cousins as an insurance policy. I think McCarron's game managing ability would fit well there. That said, Hoyer does fit the bill but McCarron would be intriguing there imo.

Feels like you may be over thinking it, listening to generic scouting, or perhaps not considering him as a part of a Sean Payton offense.

While your concerns are legit, they aren't anything new.

Sproles - Small multi role RB that handled returns.

Brees - Too short

Cooks - 5'10", Sproles 5'6" (71 receptions in 2013), Lance Moore 5'9", Doug Baldwin 5'10", Percy Harvin 5'11", Julien Edelman 5'10", Wes Welker 5'9"..... Case made?

Your not handicapping the new ability. If he can smoke a CB 30 yards down field, he can smoke a CB across the field. His start/stop ability with his burst should give him huge separation ability. More than once Drew hit Stills in stride last season.

Still is a solid player, Cooks is a play maker... I see a slight valuable difference.

Have you seen Sean Payton get his hands on an offensive weapon/play maker and do nothing with him yet? (One that didn't cause his own issues)

Sources tell ESPN that Josh Gordon could face a season-long suspension following a second failed drug test, this time for marijuana.

The Browns can't even bask in their Johnny Manziel glory for 24 hours. Gordon, who was booted off Baylor's football team for failed drug tests, was suspended by the NFL for the first two games of last season after violating the league's substance abuse policy. A second violation can come with a 16-game ban. It would be a devastating blow to an offense that was previously trending up. Gordon was fantasy's No. 1 receiver last season, racking up a league-high 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. Cleveland only has Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson and Greg Little behind him. Cleveland = Saints from 1967 thru early 1980's.

I'm sure they take no comfort in being the NFL's most lovable losers.
