Crowded WR Battle

1 Attachment(s)
Who are the starting WRs come game 1 against Failclowns?

My Six: Colston, Cooks, Stills, Meachem, Morgan and Coleman. Sorry Nick Toon.

Coleman on PS since nobody is going to pick him up.
It's Nick Toon's time to shine.

Coleman will get a issue that require him to get stashed on IR for the year

You can add Jean-Baptiste to that list if he doesn't work out at corner

....ha ha just kidding...maybe

He should be able to beat out Morgan and Toon.

Re: Crowded WR Battle

I can see Coleman being used in the redzone to make more room for Graham and the running game. Imagine having to cover Colston, Coleman, Graham in the redzone and worry about the run game.

Re: Crowded WR Battle

Training camp will be vital for toon

If he continues dropping passes like the past couple seasons, he won't make the final 53 in my opinion

Re: Crowded WR Battle

I don't see Meachem making it this time.

Colston
Stills
Cooks
Toon
Morgan
Tanner

Coleman to the PS, Meachem gone. Tanner makes opening day roster. 3 bigs, 3 smalls

Locks:
Colston
Stills
Cook

Toon: Most upside of the contenders, but drops must stop.
Meachem: Can be cut and resigned all season long, paid week to week
Morgan: Exciting, fast and fragile. Could also be a week to week candidate.
Coleman: Practice squad or the B-IR (Barely Injured Reserve)
Tanner: Probably not gonna make it this year

Re: Crowded WR Battle

I think Coleman makes the team; Meachem or Morgan will be gone. That's the way I see it

Coleman gets a paper cut from handling the playbook, goes to IR.

I think this is Toons last shot. Maybe another injury could help him squeeze onto the field. He hasn't really shown me anything to get excited about.

Re: Crowded WR Battle

Other than that one game, Toon hasn't shown a problem with drops since he's been with the Saints. Maybe people need to cut him some slack for that game because otherwise it's an extremely small sample size of work to judge him on, and he's looked good in preseason.

I think that will be pretty accurate. Might be Coleman on PS and Toon making the roster if he finally had the light come on.

jjasso007 05-14-2014 04:35 PM

Re: Crowded WR Battle

Locked: Colston, Stills, Cooks

Most likely will make the roster
Meachem: Knows the offense and is reliable. Plus he's our best blocking WR.

Up in the air
Joseph Morgan: Had a nice season in 2012 but was injured last season. If he's finally healthy, he has a good chance

Nick Toon: The light just hasn't quite came on, so this training camp will be a "make it or break it" camp for him. He has the measurables the league looks for in a WR, but he drops too many passes. If he's finally fixed that drop problem, he may beat out Morgan. If not, Morgan will take it

Brandon Coleman: Almost 6'7 and runs a 4.52 40. Has a tendency to catch the ball with his body which leads to drops, but if he can work on that, plus his route running, he may contribute this season. If not, he'll make the IR

Thanks for applying but the positions have been filled
Andy Tanner
Seantavius Jones
Chris Givens
Charles Hawkins

Meach did the same thing so hopefully this is his year.

A nice season? He had 10 catches the entire season/career. You could replace him with one of the backup offensive lineman and Drew could get him 10 catches a season. If he doesn't step up big real real soon he should be easy to replace.

True but speed kills. He will get his chance this year.

10 receptions, 3 TDs and a 37.9 yards per catch average. As Exile said, speed kills and he did what we needed him to do. Plus he's 6'1, so has some height. Also have to take into account that was his first year on the field, so there was only room to improve in the reception department.

Meach and Toon are gone. No reason to keep them. Meach may be back from week to week but Toon is gone.

What happened to ULM WR/TE Je'Ron Hamm? I thought we signed him too. I see him being on the PS for sure.

Toon was a mid/late pick and has shown nothing. WR position is too deep to let him continue to hang around.

Speed only kills if there is a catch on the other end of it. Morgan has been so unproductive that he doesn't even open things up for the other WR's. That's why Cooks is here. Meacham doesn't have anything left in the tank and Toon has done even less than Morgan. I think both get another shot in preseason, but I wouldn't be surprised to see either or both cut. Tanner doesn't have one tenth the talent of either, but would bring more on the field production. I'm hoping a couple of the new guys show real potential. If 2 of the 3 Meacham, Toon or Morgan are on the 53 man roster then we have ZERO depth at WR.

Re: Crowded WR Battle

When it's all done

Stills , Cooks , Colston , Coleman , Morgan and a Occasional off and on with Tanner as per the norm

This is pure garbage !!! Morgan averaged 20 YpC when healthy ... Our problem was we couldn't take the top off the defenses we played which meant we played on their terms ...

Having 3 guys that can take the top off a defense at any time is unheard of , if they double graham we have way too much speed with stills Morgan and cooks for almost everyone not to be open , Drews gonna be giddy with options to throw to

Andy Tanner My gut says this is the year SP gives this kid the break he needs. he just does not go away. so SP or the WR coach is seeing something in the kid. maybe just a soft spot. who knows.

He gets the Sentimental Favorite or the old SF classification

I know a bunch of fans would love to see him finally get his chance

so you never know

Odds are if he drops passes he aint making it on the roster and will be lucky to finish camp. SP benched him and we saw next to nothing of him even with injuries and was active for just eight games.

then again

January 22, 2014 2:00 pm Mickey Loomis sticks up for Nick Toon
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
Saints second-year receiver Nick Toon was usually inactive the second half of the season, but general manager Mickey Loomis said the organization is not down on him. "The only thing holding Nick back is the number of opportunities," Loomis said, per ESPN.com. "He'll get those going forward."
Noon dropped a bomb in the Week 9 loss at the Jets and was rarely seen after that. He finished the season with four catches for 68 yards. Signed cheaply for the next two seasons, Toon could play more if the Saints part ways with veteran Lance Moore.
Nick Toon, WR, New Orleans Saints, NFL - CBSSports.com

then again

Opppsss Inactive for BOTH playoff games. hell they did not buy him a ticket even. sitting home eating buttered pop corn?

then there is

drafted in 2012. So he may not be SP man. SP was sitting home watch the draft eating buttered pop corn. question is did he throw any at the TV when the pick was made or not? ;)

He didn't take the top off of anything, because he was no threat to catch the ball. He's a one trick pony, go deep is all he has. Then the odds of him catching it are slim. If Brees trusted him he would have more than 10 career catches.

How many chances does he need? He has been to three camps and has been cut/signed 30+ times but has never cracked the top 5.
