The club announced Sunday it had reached a deal with wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the No. 20 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

As with all first-round deals, Cooks received a four-year contract, but the Saints will later have the option to add a fifth year to the deal.

The 5-foot-10, 184-pound Cooks caught 226 passes for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns at Oregon State (2011-2013). The Saints traded their first-round pick (No. 27) and third-round selection (No. 91) to Arizona to move up seven spots to select Cooks, who is likely to see immediate playing time for New Orleans.

This is the quickest first round signing I remember. I guess with the rookie cap in place there is not much to argue.

Not much room with the new CBA. It is what it is. In 4 years we'll be discussing the 5th year option.

The new CBA makes this part of the process so much more easier than it used to be, especially with the 1st rounders.

Agreed and i think its a good thing for all the involved parties. Holdouts are damaging for the player and the team.

Hard not to agree, the salaries for rookies were out of control. More than fair this new deal.

this is a very important signing early, get him on that practice field with drew and company asap. let that mixture form. this guy will get us back to the out of this world offense we had in paytons brainbustin plays that just marched us up and down the field at ease. he has that come back want in him to let drew dump to him, just cant wait.

+1, no doubt.

Learn your playbook.. not just Cooks but for ALL of our rookies. Anyone ever watch NFL Hard knocks ? The first thing a coach/grim reaper will tell a rookie who don't cut it is ... "coach needs to see you. Bring your playbook".

One can only imagine how big Payton's playbook is.

Our "off-season" moves and the draft have me really pumped for the season. More so than in past years. I can't wait to see these guys on the field.
