Not sure about that. Did you know that Lelito practiced at Center every practice last year? And that Drew makes most of the O-line calls anyway?

I didn't know that. I feel a little bit better about it now. It won't be any worse than DLP.

I'm concerned about depth, but I'd imagine 31 other teams are too.

but you know all eyes on the line will be at OC to start the season. the saints would be crazy sorry stupid not baby sit the kid till he proved he can handle the job.

thus making Armstead role even bigger to stand alone and protect Drews blind side like a seasoned Vet.

i expect some growing pains outside but we can ill afford a massive melt down right up the gut.

Thats 1/2 correct, there are two sets of calls at the line, 1st is QB calling the play, second should be Center calling protections.

Which is why DLP was allowed to walk. The QB is not traditionally the man that calls the protections and it explains a lot of the delay of games last season, a lot of abnormal huddling, absence of the 2 minute when we should have run it the whole game. I will go as far as to say it could have been the reason our RBs were being tackled 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage. DLP didn't posses the mental acuity which might explain his career.

Payton Manning... The QB that was the QB, HC, and GM in Indi... Didn't call his own protections. Ive been trying to get this understood around here, I found evidence that Center is not all blocking, it is very cerebral. Center has an intangible requirement that stats cant pick up.

Manning called the plays at the line and Saturday had a few seconds to call the protections.

Lelito didn't spend last season practicing snaps or blocking, he spent the season learning to read defenses and call protections. Something tells me Sean knew DLP wasn't cutting it.

For the O-Line those two things are hand in hand most of the time.

When it looks like a LB shot a gap between C and G, its not as much that the C got his butt whipped as it is the C or G missed his assignment. Cs do not get bull rushed by DEs, they do not face as many brutal attacks as Gs/Ts. Jeff Saturday was no monster of a man he was on the smaller side of most NFL Cs.

As far as expectations of Saturday out of college: Ranked 11th best Center available in his draft, went undrafted, and returned to his job in an electrical supply store between the Ravens cutting him and the Colts signing him.

The physical aspect of being a Center is less than 50% of it.

Jeff Saturday has proven that scouts know sh1t, draft position means nothing, and Center is cerebral. I am not saying Lelito is the next Saturday, I am saying the position of Center shouldn't be looked at like it is just another interior lineman that snaps a ball.

Good points Oak, I wish I had that WWL interview with Grubbs saved. He commented on how smart Lelito was and how he was an upgrade in strength and size over DLP.

It sounded a bit more than just player on player praise.
