Because they pop back up to the top every time someone votes, even though there are no new replies to the topic.

How can you not hate that?

I have now officially vowed to avoid posting in any poll (which may actually make a couple posters I know very happy).

Polls suck. I sure hope others join me in my new poll boycott.
