Saints 2018
No much really to discuss now other than the compelling topic on Mark Ingram.
Anyway as things stand Payton and Brees will both be gone. Does Payton sign a new contract and rebuild the offense?, does he follow the new more mobile QB system or stay with the same gameplan?. All ifs and buts but im bored with the same topics over and over again |
Re: Saints 2018
And more importantly... will Mark Ingram be with the team then? ;-)

Re: Saints 2018
Wow, are you bored.
Why would Payton leave a franchise where he's undefeated at home and revered across the land? |
Re: Saints 2018
Yes I am bored, hence the post.
How many coaches stay with one team these days. |
Re: Saints 2018
If we are in need of a rebuild, I would want none other than Sean Payton to lead it. I wouldn't be surprised if he left when Brees retires, but as long as we keep playing well now I would envision him here for the long term.

Re: Saints 2018
SP will not go anywhere. He is like Elvis in N.O. As for Brees I could see him playing to 2020. A backup will be in the works long before then and will be ready to take over I'm sure.

Re: Saints 2018
I also could see Brees still playing. Other than that one game, Peyton looked pretty good last year
and I'm not sure I equate Brees retiring to an automatic rebuilding year. On defense Jordan and KV will be in their prime. Good cornerstones. on offense, our now young lineman will be 26-27, and the first two people I'd introduce our new QB to would be Stills and Cooks |

The future is now.

Re: Saints 2018
With Payton's system, I see him always sticking with a pocket-passer... I don't put much stock in the mobile QB, only so many big hits they can take when running... Just look at RGIII

Re: Saints 2018
I think Payton stays, if for no other reason than to prove he can win without Brees. I'd love for that QB to be Ryan Griffin, he has the size, the arm and hea for it.
Even by then the team should still have a good core of players from this group in their prime. Jordan, Hicks, Galette, Vaccaro on defense, Graham, Stills, Cooks, Armstead probably your core on offense and Graham would be the oldest of the bunch at 30 when the 2018 season starts. That's not bad at all. |
Re: Saints 2018
Hate to break it to you, but Ryan Griffin is crap and is not the future.

2018? well a this rate the defense should be solid and we will be in the middle of rebuilding the offense. so i say he will stay

You know Lee, the "mobile QB system" has always been around in various manifestations and at the end of the day, the last real, successful innovator has proven to be Bill Walsh and the West Coast variant of the Modern ProSet Offense established by Don Coryell... Of note, the fact that Don Coryell has not been inducted in the Canton ProFootball HOF for his contribution totally invalidates the HOF... Now, when you get down to it, teams have essentially three downs and a passing playbook geared to gain 11-14 yards per play - the real challenge is to get 11 guys coordinated in a timely placed symphony - and so the odds are there for success... Yeah, I'm a Saints Homer, but Payton really fires me up and takes the fandom to another level because I can see how he masks his players faults and maximizes their strengths, surging with perfect timeliness - all the while his team is having great success... |
Re: Saints 2018
As long as we don't ever go into 100% rebuild he stays.
Do thing right and be competitive every year. The largest change we'll do is replace Brees... other than that we'll cut older veterans to sign younger cheaper talent. He stays in 2018 |

Re: Saints 2018
For my money Brees is extremely likely to finish his contract here with the Saints and then go play somewhere else for another expensive contract for a number of more years....no telling where it will be....similar to Favre or Vick or Archie Manning or countless others...to think that Brees is going to play out his days here and magically "retire a Saint" is extremely naive. We will be seeing Drew in the Dome wearing another teams colors, quite possibly for many years to come.
Payton on the other hand, I think the big ego thing for coaches is not to win it all with two different quarterbacks, but it's to win it all with two different TEAMS. That makes me think he will carry on life elsewhere as well. Where ever the money is good and the ownership situation is stable, he stands a good chance of ending up there. Especially Dallas when you project into the future, when certain things that are currently wrong with the team will be fixed. |
