New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
One under the radar prospect to look at this year is Alabama safety Vinnie Sunseri. In Tuscaloosa, his stats were not staggering; he recorded 31 tackles in 13 games in 2011 and 54 tackles, including 6 tackles for loss, in 14 games in 2012. However he started 2013 fast getting 2 pick sixes in his first two games. Unfortunately, after 2 games, his 2013 campaign was cut short due to a torn ACL, which he has recovered from at a remarkable pace.
Sunseri will be joining Jairus Byrd, Kenny Vaccaro, Rafael Bush, and Marcus Ball in the safety group. Despite the level of talent, Sunseri can possibly overtake Ball on the depth chart. If not, he will be the 5th safety, which isn’t the worst position to be in. Last year, Rob Ryan kept 5 safeties on the roster and used them all extensively throughout different points in the season in his unique 3-4 safety lineups. So though he won’t start, Sunseri may still see some playing time in special packages. New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri |

He went to Bama, he'll never be given a fair shake by Saints fans. Been there, seen it.

Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
Pretty old school thing these days to confuse Saints fans with LSU fans...

I'll root for the guy even though it will aggravate Danno. :)

BTW, I was one of the few who was a Roman Harper supporter. |
Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
Sorry, I didn't mean all saints fans, just the majority. I visit too many sites that hate everything Alabama and lumped some of you in that group.
I'd say about half here don't care that he went to Alabama |
Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
I hated the pick when I first saw it, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought he might be a steal. Future pro bowler. I love a ball hawk.

Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
I see a lot of Sammy Knight in the guy. A heady player always around the ball, just not a super athlete.
Perhaps a more modern comparison would be Jim Leonhard |
Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
If he is as good as Harper with better cover slills I would be estatic. I loved Harper in SS mode.

Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
I was surprised to see that he was born in 'bama; the whole family is from Pittsburgh.
I see him making the team based on his ST skills |

Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
of all those weird upside/injury picks the saints made, which is becoming too common place, he is the one that is the least hyped for athletic ability and gets his for smarts and solid football. he might be the one to save this group of picks.

This years Vaccaro. He'll roam around and make plays.

It's him or Ball...
May the best man win. I like Ball's physical ability but Vinnie has the instincts. |
Re: New Orleans Saints: Why to watch Vinnie Sunseri
Good luck to him. If he can play. Then we can use him. Don't care where he played his college ball. Your in the the NFL.
