Re: Saints Minicamp

Tanner and Morgan not working out. Surprise? So is John Jenkins. So he won't be practicing kickoff returns.

Confirmed John Jenkins out with a pec surgery. Should return by camp.

Lewis and Bailey staring CBs. Probably going to be our guys come game 1.

Re: Saints Minicamp

From what I've read

The standouts so far have been - Nick toon and Cadet - catching everything thrown their way

Toon just beat Rod Sweeting on a double move and logan kilgore launched the deep pass and hit toon in stride

Kenny Vaccaro has had a few pass breakups which got the crowd excited

Khairi Fortt and Ronald Powell have got early praise from the saints coaching staff on their quickness and power during tackling drills

Media is raving about Cadet and the practice he's having, brees is giving him some pointers but they are saying he's been catching everything all day and looks fast/ fluid running routes

Re: Saints Minicamp

It will be a MUCH different team this year. Younger defense with different names. New play style on offense with a new lightning bolt WR and attention to the run game. Attention the run game? We will see... :chug:

Re: Saints Minicamp

METAIRIE, La. -- Once again, the two players who stood out most to me during the New Orleans Saints' minicamp practice on Tuesday were receiver Nick Toon and running back Travaris Cadet.

Toon did drop one pass, but he made a series of nice catches throughout the day -- including a deep ball from Drew Brees when Toon got behind cornerback Rod Sweeting.

Cadet, meanwhile, showed an impressive combination of speed and elusiveness while being used as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

Two disclaimers must be added when it comes to both of these players. For one thing, this is the stage of camp where there is still no live contact or tackling allowed, so it's easier for them to shine. For another thing, both of these players have stood out similarly during the past two offseasons without yet making significant contributions in the regular season.

However, it's noteworthy that both players are still being given a lot of opportunities to work their way into the Saints' rotation -- and so far, they're both taking advantage.

Open competitions:
Center Jonathan Goodwin took some snaps with the first-string offense at one point during full-team drills, though Tim Lelito spent most of the practice in that role. That's expected to be an open competition lasting deep into training camp.

Re: Saints Minicamp

Just had a friend of mine call me saying the P Rob is rocking people's faces off. That's just how good he is playing. I'm not sure what that means or how much beer he has had but I think it sounds good?

Another drop by #Saints rookie WR Brandon Coleman when he got in for play with 1s. Having tough camp so far.

You know, if Cadet finally gets his pilot light lit and Cooks can bring it when he shows up, this could be a very fun year for us.

Re: Saints Minicamp

1. It’s worth noting that receiver Marques Colston has a bounce in his step, especially after spending virtually all offseason last year trying to recover from foot surgery. Colston, the New Orleans Saints' all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and scoring, is healthy and that’s a good sign. Don’t fret over his diminished workload in minicamp or training camp – he needs to be kept fresh for the regular season.

2. Defensive end Cam Jordan has high goals set for himself and outside linebacker Junior Galette. The two combined for 24.5 sacks last season; Jordan believes they can bump that number up to 30 and both look as good, or better, physically as they did last season.

3. If defensive coordinator Rob Ryan wants to use a three-safety package in the secondary this season, he still will be able to do so with Kenny Vaccaro, Jairus Byrd and Rafael Bush. Bush had a breakout season last year (he’s working with the No. 1 defense while Byrd recovers from back surgery), Vaccaro is improving by the day and cornerback Keenan Lewis calls Byrd a “baby Troy Polamalu.” Lewis played in Pittsburgh with Polamalu, a future Hall of Famer with 32 career interceptions, 99 pass breakups and 13 forced fumbles, from 2009-12.

4. Another player whose return to health bears watching is right guard Jahri Evans. He was banged up last season, even as he was named to the Pro Bowl. A healthy Evans – and he is now – equals a better offensive line.

5. It’s early – really, really, really early – but undrafted rookie receivers Seantavius Jones and Charles Hawkins have shown some promise catching the ball and separating from defenders. They’re long shots, but few teams take harder looks at undrafted rookies than do the Saints.
