Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Every year, the signing of free agents and the drafting of new players can bring excitement to the coaching staff and fan base. However, it could also bring apprehension to some returning veteran players as young players are gunning for their spot. This year, wide receiver looks to be one of the most competitive positions this offseason. Consequently, veteran receiver Joseph Morgan’s job could be in jeopardy.
The New Orleans Saints saw wide receiver as the biggest need to address this offseason. And on the draft they acted accordingly trading up to snag Oregon State playmaker Brandin Cooks. The addition of Cooks and other talented undrafted free agents has all of a sudden made wide receiver a crowded position. New Orleans Saints: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous |

I wouldn't be shocked to see him and Meachem get cut. We will see, but they're going to have to show up big time in camp. It's going to be exciting.

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
The one receiver who has been the biggest disappointment is Toon. He can't seem to stay healthy enough to be on the field, and even when he has been, Toon's performance has been average to bad. Last year alone his drops could have made the difference in two of our losses.

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
if he can not stay healthy he does us no good even on the PS

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Colston, Stills, Cooks, Meachthem, Toon and Morgan. Coleman or Hawkins to PS. I don't get why Morgan would be nervous unless he get injured again.

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Consistency is Toons downfall
its no suprise that he got less and less snaps as the season went on he made an amazing catch vs bears, then dropped an easy TD 4 plays later He batted 2 balls in the air vs jets, one was picked He has more drops than regular season catches so far |

Joseph Morgan: 6'0 4/12, 4.38 40 time (Pro Day) Joe Morgan*|*Walsh,*WR*:*2011 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile Nick Toon: 6'1 7/12, 4.43 40 time (Pro Day) Nick Toon*|*Wisconsin,*WR*:*2012 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile Kenny Stills: 6'0 4/12, 4.32 40 time (Combine) *Kenny Stills*|*Oklahoma,*WR*:*2013 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile Meachem had a 4.39 combine time, but he's slower now, of course. But Meachem has also been our best blocking WR for some time, plus he has a good working relationship with Brees and knows how to get open and knows his role. So we have two more speedsters in Cooks and Stills, both able to do what Morgan is primarily known for and both faster. Toon was 0.05 seconds slower in his 40 time than Morgan plus is younger. And, so far, he's had a very good OTA (but we'll see when the pads go on how he performs). For me, with players who are faster, or nearly the same as Morgan, he seems like the odd man out. With a taller receiver in both Toon and Meachem, and you can't teach height, I think Morgan could be on the outside looking in if he doesn't blow people away in TC On a side note, I love Morgan and really see some tough cuts coming this season |

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Toon has so much potential that it pisses me off thinking about him possibly not capitalizing on his opportunity. He has perfect size and speed... Just gotta make those catches! When it comes to Joe Morgan... Look, we all loved that awesome play against the Buccaneers 2 seasons ago but I think it's time to move on. One-dimensional fast guys are a dime a dozen. Who knows if he's even that fast anymore after these injuries.

Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Saw a tweet (Holder?) that said Meachem looks better/faster than ever.
If so then I think he makes the team, or is cut/re-signed after week one to avoid guaranteeing his contract. I've read Coleman isn't looking too good, but neither did Colston in his 1st OTA's either. My gut tells me Colston Stills Cooks Morgan Toon Meachem Coleman, Hull and Jones look like solid PS guys so far. Can't wait to see how they do in pads. |
Re: Why Joseph Morgan should be nervous
Say what you want about Meachem, but he plays. He's lost a step, never lived up to being a number one, sucked in SD, but here he is back in the mix. I think he is even with Toon, and way ahead of Morgan
