Tanner continues quest to make Saints
1 Attachment(s)
In franchise history, there may be no one better at taking “no’’ for an answer than New Orleans Saints wide receiver Andy Tanner, who’s been cut/released/waived more often than he cares to remember.
His biography in the team’s media guide reflects 34 transactions of here today, gone tomorrow and brought back again since May 2010. Until now, the diminutive 26-year-old from Rockwall, Texas, has remained steadfast in trying to reach his goal of playing in the NFL. To date, he has not played in a regular season game. In July, he will participate in his fifth training camp with the Saints, and the chances of him making the opening-game roster appear to be slim. In his mind, that’s all the chance he needs. “I know this can be the end or the beginning of my career right here,’’ he said after the last of five minicamp practices Thursday. “This is the year. I’m ready for either way. I hope it can be staying here.’’ Read more: Tanner continues quest to make Saints | Saints | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, LA |
Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
Reading Ellard's comments you would think Tanner is a #1 receiver.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
Much respect for Tanner. He said he will keep trying as long as his body allows him to compete. Impossible to measure what someone like that brings to the locker room. I hope he gets a shot to al least suit up and make some plays at some point.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
We are loaded with talent. PS at best.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
He deserves a shot. He'll suit up this year.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
Unfortunately for tanner he's always trapped in a numbers game
We are always loaded at WR, no matter how well he plays in preseason (he always plays well) he's constantly going to be put on the practice squad because he's basically our security blanket at WR incase of mass injuries as he knows the offense so well |
Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
Thats alot of heart.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
I don't think he's nearly as much of a long shot as people say.
Morgan has two ACL tears and a DUI arrest under his belt. Coleman apparently had a terrible camp. Meachem is a one-trick pony, etc. Big question marks for everybody on the WR depth chart not named Colston, Stills or Cooks. If Tanner has another preseason like the last one they can't justifiably leave him off the roster, particularly if we keep 6 WR. |

he's had his chances for going on 4 years now, and the list of receivers that have kept him off the field is long, and in some cases unimpressive |
Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
I respect the determination. He should try another team though. Jets maybe.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
He made the roster before. What got him cut were injuries at other positions which will probably happen to anyone on any team being the last option at WR unfortunately. And talent is not everything, many a teams were loaded with it and went absolutely nowhere. Morale is a dangerous thing. A player that can inspire other good players to play even better, that's what I think he brings.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
It's obvious they like him since they kept him on the PS again. The thing is we were desperate for a good wide receiver last year and he didn't see the field. In fact we made receiver our number one priority on defense. That doesn't bode well for him but hey, this might be the year he cracks the roster and stays. If not he needs to try another receiver hungry team.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
Bye Tanner. Thanks for having the commitment to make tons of money being on the practice squad but I have no emotional attachment to you. See ya.

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
They will likely sign him for one game if he fails to make it next year.
It's going to be complicated though if Peyton promises him but leaves next season after his second SB. |

-He has been to 4 training camps and has never gotten onto the field, and none of the 31 other teams have signed him. There is a reason I'm with you- Good Luck Andy. I hope you pass the CPA exam |
Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
if he earns his way onto the roster, I can not imagine any true fan would not be happy for the kid. he just does not go away. SP has to see something in this kid

I am reminded of Jake Delhomme, who was cut from every roster he was ever on wasn't he? LOL

Re: Tanner continues quest to make Saints
He's got a tough road with the new talent this season...
What's amazing is that he's probably somewhere around 6-8 on the roster because we're looking to be really deep at WR... After developing with the Saints, I can see teams like the Rams, Lions, Raiders, or even the Patriots signing him as that Lance Moore-type slot receiver... And he could easily be a starting no. 3 wide receiver... |
