New Orleans a bad football town?
From ESPN chat with former saints GM Randy Mueller
David(Sparks, NV): Randy, what're the chances the Saints pick up Romeo Crennel or Charlie Weis as their head coach in the offseason? Randy Mueller: (3:41 PM ET ) It may be hard to talk a coach with "options" into coming to New Orleans...good football people have not faired well there...but one never knows... http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=6618 I am interested what you guys think about this. It sounds like the NO is a bad football town. Also, this is very dishearting. Does this mean we will get a bad coach, or if we get a good coach he won't do well? |

I think this has more to do with his feelings towards Tom Benson than New orleans as a football town. And he could be right.

No, I don\'t think it\'s limited to just football. Just ask the \'Utah\' Jazz what it took to get to the championship.
Much as I love NO, I have to wonder if it really is cursed with respect to bigtime sports. Thank God the Tigers are in Baton Rouge. |

CONSIDER THE SOURCE

New Orleans a bad football town?
Yeah, you guys are right, just another crazed cast off that knows nothing about football - this guy must be as looney as Kyle Turley! No, in reality the Saints have a great owner and front office, that\'s why they are 27th in the league in income with one of the most loyal fan bases in the league despite having, what 2 winning seasons and 1 trip to the playoffs in a decade.
How about, instead of considering the SOURCE you look at what he said? Is he wrong? Haslett was a sought after coach that was being thrown other offers left and right? How about Ditka? Mora made a name for himself in a defunct league... Stram might be the biggest name to have ever been here. He\'s probably right... |

What is the incentive to go to NO to coach football? I think there may be some sour grapes however I can\'t see the lure. Why pick Florida over ND? The recent history has shown their is a chance to have a good program at Florida.

New Orleans is a great sports town with great fans--look at all the sellouts for mediocre teams under Haslett. It sounds like Randy is questioning the organization, which people have been doing since Finks died. |

If Benson opens his wallet, we can get any Coach we want.

Bad (NFL) football town (and NBA) town;
YES on the performance side. No doubt - look at the record. Good sporting town - in terms of following teams; YES. Should you coach the Saints; NO if you were a sought after coach by an obvious potential for a AFC/NFC champion. YES if you wanted to prove that you could a poor team to a good one. |

Hey BMG - but we\'re a \"professional\" well-run organization - just ask some posters on this board. LOL

I am hearing that when one of the Punt, Pass and Kick competitors asked for some advice - she was told - do not do it how they ..... (The Saints)... do it.
