2014 Salary Cap- Updated
As of today we are about $4.5 million under. Since only the top 51 players count against that number, we won't see much fluctuation. (For example, If we cut Toon and keep Morgan, we would save $100K, but would lose it back in dead money.)
The decision to keep a third QB, and who ends up winning the kicking job might net another half million (cutting Shane Graham would only cost us 10,000) http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/cap/ - click Dead Money to sort, and see who would cost us what if they get cut » Over the Cap- New Orleans Saints 2014 Salary Cap and Contracts |

And whatever we don't use can roll over into 2015.
Sweet!!! |
Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
The Saints will also like to keep some set aside in case they need an injury replacement, etc. during the year. In addition to top 51, IR, PuP and practice squad eat into that. While that isn't much, it is calculated.

Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
Signed the best available free safety to the highest contract in history at the position.
Locked up arguably the best tight end in the game to a four year deal with the highest salary at the position. Taunted the falcons with what would have been their best safety and then signed him. Resigned our starting right tackle. And the Saints are 4.5 million under the cap. We're supposed to be in cap hell. Loomis for President! |
Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
Don't see us signing or extending anyone right now, except maybe Ingram for a lower cap number/more guaranteed money; and that seems like it is more in a prove-it mode anyway...

Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
Wouldn't mind using some of that cap room to sign a depth lineman. Adam Carriker is supposedly healthy again, he would look nice in the rotation.

Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated

They needed a tight end, we resigned Graham. It's like Loomis is rubbing Dimitoff's nose in his own ineptitude. |
Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
I trust Loomis, but next years cap looks awful. 12m over and that includes losing all free-agents. Even with a Brees restructure/extension we are going to be hurting.
Loomis you got your work cut out for you next year bud! |

We not only survived this off season, we thrived. Brees, Colston, Evans, Grubbs, Lofton are all next year's candidates for restructure. Of our top 25 (highest paid) players, only Ingram and Robinson will be FA's. Plus, our dead money should be significantly lower next year than the 10+ million this year |
Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
Saints are 4.5 million under the cap. hmmmmm
i count 4 players playing for their future with saints Mechuem - Ingram - Robinson - Butler so sign an extension for any of them? I say no at this point wait and see and hold out till the final cuts then make a move if we need to. Quote:
All the others have redone theirs already so i am not expecting them sit at the table with mickey. |
Re: 2014 Salary Cap- Updated
I hope you are not crunching all these numbers in your head ScottF.
Anyone remember when we didn't have cap issues? It's almost kinda somewhat nice. |

Loomis can keep on doing this year after year until Brees retires, at which point we are probably doing a full-scale rebuild. |
