Are You Feeling Lucky?
Some times the ball bounces your way.........and sometimes it doesn't. In '09 we were able to create turnovers and limit our own. We then made the most of those opportunities. We were lucky enough to stay relatively healthy while the team gained momentum on our way to winning the Superbowl. Also, let's not forget that we were lucky enough to pull off one of the gutsiest calls in football history when we ran ambush to start the second half.
I know that most of ya'll remember the lean years when we never got a break. Talk about bad luck, it felt like every bounce and call went to the other team. Meanwhile you are sitting next to people wearing Schwaggman bags over their heads. I understand that the Failcons tried to copy this too but kept suffocating. So the question is do you feel lucky.........well, do you punk? :ohno: |

Re: Are You Feeling Lucky?
I would prefer to think of it as "momentum" rather than luck.
In 09, we came out of the gates hard and fast. Blew out everybody in preseason, the offense was rolling. By the 1st week of the season there was already an aura of invincibility. Remember we weren't by any means injury-free that season. We lost Jammal Brown and Kendrick Clancy before the season even started. Lost PT for the first 2 weeks. Reggie and Mike Bell each missed 2-3 games. Lost Heath Evans week 5 or 6. Ellis and Fujita both missed a bunch of games in the middle of the season. Greer and Porter both missed substantial playing time down the stretch. Lance Moore barely played in the regular season. Shockey missed a few games. Etc. In fact IIRC we had the most or 2nd most players on IR that season. But it didn't matter because we were a freight train from the first week on. We did have some luck, as all championship teams do. But it seems to me that's something you make for yourself too. As for this season, I think we'll find out pretty soon. I didn't feel like we were a very lucky team at all last year and still managed 11 wins and a playoff win. So just a little bit of lucky breaks could be a big deal. |
Re: Are You Feeling Lucky?
There is no such thing as luck... Luck is only a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.
In '09 players were prepared to take advantage of opportunities; not lucky... |

Perhaps luck is better defined as a circumstance that can go either way, but went one team's way often enough to result in a victory. |

I'll take an all of the above approach. I love to be lucky, prepared, fortunate, get all of the referee calls, have momentum, and win the Lombardi. :bng:

There was just something about 09 I felt like we couldn't lose even if we wanted to. It almost felt invincible. And after that game in Miami I just knew it was our year.
