Which players are on the bubble?

1. Mark Ingram
The FO didn't pick up his option and he must be better than Tim Flanders or I could see him traded to a team with injury problems at RB.
2. Nick Toon for a fourth rd pick he has been given lots of chances . IMHO it is time to put up or shut up. Eleven players are competing for 5 spots Competing with some good players who could have more upside . He needs to have a stellar pre season to get a spot.
3. Joe Morgan needs to get back on the field . Injury concerns and playing time are the questions that he must answer. See above.
4. CBs someone is going to be odd man out . Eleven players and five spots. This is going to be exciting to watch . We might have a player traded from this deep group.
5. Always a player that surprises and takes a spot from a player that we thought would be safe . This FO has shown that they will keep the player that plays the best and has upside. More than a lot of teams positions are up for grabs to anyone that proves themselves.

Any thoughts,ideas,opinions?

This is definitely Joe's last go around. We all want him to succeed but he simply can't help us on the sideline or in the tub.

What about kickers?

Will the Saints stay with Graham or go with Dimke(sp)?

Danno I really tried to like Ingram . He just hasn't panned out. It might be how we use him . He has failed repeatedly in clutch situations. I hope I am wrong but I don't think so

Tanner, Toon, Morgan are all on the bubble I believe. They have all had ample time to catch on. I think Morgan is the front runner if he can stay healthy.
Every kicker is on the bubble
I think this is INgrams last shot. I don't see him being on the training camp bubble but an in season trade is a possibility if he starts the season like he normally does. In any case he needs to pick up where he left off last year.
I do think Payton is going to be more committed to the run this season and Ingram will have a chance to put the "he just needs carries" theory to the test.

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Ingram was statistically our best RB last year

4.9 yards per carry in the regular season and 5.2 in the post-season...

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

1. Mark Ingram - bubble hell yeah. but not in camp IMO. if he does not produce regularly and stay healthy he has a chance to bring us a comp pick just maybe at seasons end

2. Nick Toon - gotta hold onto the ball

3. Joe Morgan - can he stay health

4. CBs - special teams bust.

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Nick toon is in danger

For 3 straight years all I've heard is how good he looks in training camp, that doesn't mean squat if you can't stay healthy or when you do get on the field you drop more passes than you catch

He really needs to step up, I still hold him accountable for the loss vs jets

Well, they both suck and Dimke is cheaper, so there you have it.
To make matters worse, here is what Hartley is going to cost us this year:
$1,010,400

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Joe Morgan at least has a chance with kick/punt return abilities.
Toon just has to make it happen within the offense.
Ingram did OK late in the season. Personally I like PT better; more versatile and better vision.
Payton's game plan is situational and won't give any of them enough carries to turn heads with their numbers.
Even if they have a +100 game this week, it just doesn't transfer to the next week.
The one thing we know is that they have no problem with new blood.
Players who prove they belong will be around.
Ingram is contract safe and would really have to fall flat to not get his share of opportunities.
When the roster is down to actives + PSquads, I'm thinking we will look pretty good.

Jack Vegas 07-25-2014 01:52 PM

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Ingram? come on.

Players who are actually probably on the bubble.

McCown - I could see Griffin making him expendable.
Cadet - If he doesn't have a very good preseason, he's gone IMO.
Morgan and Meachem - IMO one of these two is gone because they play essentially the same role in the offense.
Marcel Jones - time to put up or shut up for him.
Sweeting - too many good players ahead of him.

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Ingram will make the team. Toon is on the bubble but I think he'll eventually outplay Coleman and Hull although it's not a sure thing. I could see Hull being a special team star because he played safety in college he can surely cover kicks. Morgan will either start or we're done with him. If Morgan is healthy he's a star. He reminds me a lot of Joe Horn. But if he gets hurt again I give up. Could Pierre Thomas get outplayed by Tim Flanders or Cadet? Doubtful.

What if he didn't get hurt and we won that playoff game and The Haz never got fired a year later than he did and Payton went to Green Bay and .........................we wouldn't be palying what if right now?

Drew would have ended up in Miami and Saban may still be in the NFL

The problem with bashing Ingram is that he had the best YPC for the Saints last year. now that we can stretch a defense with some speed at WR well see. i mean every back the Bucs used last year ran for 200yds it seemed. maybe irs the line or the sysrem.

Exactly, that's why the early season struggles we had were to do with our O line rather than the RB's

If our O line can put together consistent performances in run blocking, all our RB's will be tough to stop

If Meachem can't get on the field, he isn't going to make the team.

Don't we say we are gonna run the ball more every year? We did it well in 09. I think we need to do it well again to get into and go far in the playoffs. :bng:

He also had a BIG FAT FUMBLE in the palyoffs that put us in a huge hole. We likely would have been able to win if not for that. Can't judge him on one play, but he can't keep that stuff up either.

Thats odd, no one blames PT for his fumble against San Fran a couple years ago. We likely would have been able to win if not for that

Jack Vegas 07-28-2014 03:34 PM

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

^ PT was knocked out though. Hard to blame a guy for not holding the ball when he is literally unconscious.

I don't judge Ingram based on that one fumble. I will say that we have gone into offseasons before believing that he has turned the corner (2012 most notably) and he fell flat on his face. Pretty safe to say he's on his last chance.

Ingram didn't fumble all through the regular season and had one when a guys helmet hit the ball in the playoff game
Unfortunately it happened but the fact of "we could have won that game" stretches far beyond ingrams fumble - Brees missed several wide open receivers in that game, Jimmy Graham dropped at least 3 passes and the defense was on the field entirely too long

Mistakes happen but one fumble has not jeapordised Ingram's chances, after this season he will most likely get an extension for 2 more years anyway because he knows the offense and we'll be able to sign him for a decent amount

I wasn't referring to his one fumble, I was referring to his history of inconsistent play. I want to believe he's turned it around. We'll soon find out.

There was NOTHING inconsistent about his play.

When he was surrounded and pummeled by 3 defenders 3 yards behind the LOS, he didn't gain much.

When the O-line actually blocked, he performed well.

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

Bubble Players

Marcel Jones - been injured and on the practice squad. If he doesn't prove himself this pre-season, I think he gets the axe with other talent around

Travaris Cadet - with the beast that is Khiry Robinson, we have three legitimate running backs. Plus Brandin Cooks can fill the "Sproles" role for this team, so the 4th running back spot may be negated, allowing someone else at another position to make the team instead

Kenyuta Dawson - a lot of young players at the OLB position. Dawson could be cut allowing someone like Ronald Powell the opportunity to show what he can do

Corey White - with the staff playing him at Safety this offseason, does that mean they don't necessarily have the confidence in him going forward as a #2-4 CB? If so, with so much competition at Safety, and some dewcent players at CB, White could find himself out of a job if other players step their game up and he doesn't

Hmm, not so sure about that PVoodoo, we were already in a hole before that fumble. Seattle smothered us from start to finish. I just can't chalk up a loss to one player.

I'm not trying to give him a pass, however statistically speaking Roll tide isn't a fumbler. Maybe 2 his entire career?

Not getting into another Ingram discussion, let's just say we disagree on some points and leave it there.

No, it means that Byrd isn't playing and somebody has to fill in. Coaching staff already knows what they're going to get from White at corner, not so much with Robinson and Bailey.

Honestly, I think they expect P-Rob to win the job anyway and Bailey is probably set as the nickel/slot guy. I don't think that reflects poorly on Corey White, we just have a very strong group of corners.

I do agree, White is a good #3. He also could excell at FS, he has good speed for that position and tackles very well, I'm curios to see how he's doing at FS.

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

According to Payton, White hasn't lined up at safety and is not a safety in this defense

Despite how it might look, Sean Payton says Corey White has not lined up at safety | Black and Gold

Jack Vegas 07-28-2014 11:53 PM

Re: Which players are on the bubble?

It is true that we used corners lined up pretty far back last year. I think part of Ryan's defense is disguising the coverage so that the offense doesn't really know who is coming up on the ball and who is hanging back. White, Bush and Vacarro are all guys who can play just about anywhere on the field and play any role on a given down.

So basically he was just playing deep nickel back and all the tweeters kept calling it FS.
I'd like to see that look. Can't wait for next saturday
