Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
It's training camp and it's early.... but I have been on twitter a lot, I've read the various reports and I have a early training camp stock up/stock down....
Stock up: Nick Toon..... His name was all over OTA's... It seems like his name is at least early on all over training camp as well. It is said that in an NFL players career there is a point where the light turns on.... Sounds like Nick is at that point.... don't think it could have come at a better time as he is on the bubble IMO. Stock Down: Corey White...... Again it's early but every TD that has been given up early on has had his name on it. They were talking about moving him to safety....... on a team full of safeties, that's not good.... Maybe I'm reading to much into it but Robinson has received a lot of praise while White as of right now ( again still early) has been the camp goat.... Discuss..... Provide your own.... |
Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
Anybody hear anything on Tim Flanders? I just have a hunch that he might be good.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
I've heard various reports of all our DBS getting beat. Bailey got toasted by Morgan, vaccaro was beaten several times, Robinson got toasted by toon. I've read very little about white getting beat.

I hear Baptiste is looking a little better than people anticipated. I know when we drafted him he was looked at as raw with a huge upside but seems to be picking the game up quick. Any truth to this?

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
Since I didnt go today, I cannot speak for that day. But Friday and Saturday, the DBs you could tell didnt really try real hard to mess up the timing of the offense. For instance, Drew was moving around the pocket once and couldnt find someone, so he threw a pass to Jimmy on the right side about 15 yards down. Vinnie and another DB instead of picking it just acted in the motions, but let the ball get to Jimmy for the reception. I would say today was a little different, especially since pads were on, but I got the feel of the defense more worried about getting to proper spots in the D rather than messing up the play.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
I am happy to hear Toon is looking good. Although he is probably on the bubble I've been saying that neither Coleman or Hull have much chance of beating him out. I could see Hull on the team in a Steve Gleason role though. But that's a guess with no evidence to back it up. Everyone seems to think Tim Flanders is the next Pierre Thomas or Khiry Robinson but I think he's practice squad at best. Who's spot is he gonna take?

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
It sounds like Coleman is playing a LOT better than he did at rookie camp, which is encouraging. I still think he is a practice squad guy or IR since we seem to "red shirt" rookie WRs a lot.
I have not read anything about Corey White getting beat a lot. In fact I have not read anything about him at all. I do think P-Rob is easily the frontrunner at #2 corner if his leg is right. I like both players a lot. I do believe Champ is probably firmly locked into the nickel/slot role at this point. |
Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
question is were was Corey playing inside or outside?

I read he got beat on one play against Cooks. By the way, he's taking a lot of snaps at FS with Byrd out, which I think is a good move. |
Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
I don't know who my dark horse is right now. I really want to see Cooks do well. We don't have the best track record with 1st rounds WRs

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
Flanders and Coleman, if they get designated to PS, will be picked up by other teams.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
^ I'm not counting out Bailey, but Robinson basically beat out Greer for the #2 CB last season. It didn't start off that way, but by the middle of the 2nd quarter against the Falcons Robinson was getting most of the playing time and Greer was nickel. It stayed that way until Robinson got hurt against the Bucs. Incidentally he was covering Vincent Jackson almost exclusively that day, so he may have even been considered the #1 CB at that point (remember though Keenan struggled a little bit early on).
If Robinson is full strength and his leg is good I think he's easily our 2nd best corner. Either way I expect there will be a healthy rotation so we can throw a lot of different looks at them. White and Bush both got a ton of playing time early on last season despite being low on the depth chart. It's essentially the same thing we do on offense where even our biggest playmakers are only playing about 65-70% of the snaps. |

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
I think Patrick Robinson is hands down better then Corey White. I feel like Corey White is just another Malcolm Jenkins with better speed. They can't figure out if he's a corner or safety.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
I'd say stock down for Ryan Griffen. Every interception I see is thrown by him. I'm not saying he can't develop more but c'mon this is 7-on-7 for Christ sake. I don't have as much faith in this guy becoming the next Chase Daniel as I used to.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
If healthy Robinson should win the #2
Now White and Champ man the middle. Champ gets the quicker slot White goes strong side (TE) and has running back duties. I today's pass happy NFL it is weird to be using nickle and dime as much as it is SS and FS. There is no such thing as a pure SS any more. same goes for CB now. |
Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
If Toon can't make the team with Colston, Cooks and Stills as the only locks at WR, then he simply doesn't have the ability to make it in the NFL. As far as White goes, I look at his ability to play safety as a positive for him. White will make the roster. His being able to contribute at multiple positions means the other guys on the bubble in the secondary are really going to have to step up.

Re: Camp Stock up/ Camp Stock Down
From what I've read Champ Bailey is having a tough time in coverage and looking completely average. Yeah he forced a fumble a few days ago but he's not the Champ of old in coverage. Patrick Robinson looks to have the #2 CB spot locked up if he doesn't get hurt.

Gotta wonder if the positive ones are just puff pieces trying to get us hyped up or if the negative one was just an author trying to make a splash with a headline grabber. |
