Triplett: Ryan Griffin could get extended look

ESPN.com New Orleans Saints reporter Mike Triplett says Friday’s preseason opener in St. Louis will be a big test for second-year quarterback Ryan Griffin, who could get playing time with the first and second string while Drew Brees deals with an oblique strain.

Against the Rams, no less; guess Drew has seen enough of the Rams...

Good, I want to see what Griffin's got.

I would like to see him with a healthy O-line in front of him, much more fair that way.

from what I have seen he's going to be and should be our number 2. Not that Luke has done anything to lose his spot but we're not going to be able to hide Griffin any longer.

Showcasing him for future trade bait.

Easily the most promising young QB we've had in the Payton era, in fact you probably have to go all the way back to Aaron Brooks to find the last time we had a young QB with real starter potential.

I doubt we are looking to trade him now, or at all. They burned a roster spot last year just to keep him from getting claimed off the practice squad.

The kid is talented. No way to know how good he is in the NFL until they put him on the field.

He's not gonna wait around 5 or 6 more years to take over for Brees. He'll be a free-agent in 2017 so I could see us trading him in 2016. Might get a Matt Schaub type deal for him.

Yeah, I hope we can trade him and get something for him. Otherwise, it'll be Chase Daniel all over again.
One thing's for sure. We're gonna hang onto him as long as we can, and pray he never has to play in anything but preseason games.

When you go back and look at how he played last preseason, it is pretty impressive. The kid has pocket presence which is a huge success factor for any QB.

I haven't seen anything from him. Just a little last preseason. I hope with Drews age that we pull him when the game is already won and give griffin some snaps. And let him actually pass.

Drew will not give up a snap to another QB if he has any say about it. "Never let the back ups on the field." Drew Brees.:bng:
