Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Yeah, I know, crazy huh? Bear with me....
If you remember back to the Super Bowl year we had some key contributions from a guy named David Thomas. He played some tight end, some lead fullback, a little bit of h-back. He could block, catch and run after the catch. And he was a good special teamer. He made some big plays in crucial moments that season because everybody was so concerned with trying to cover everybody else they forgot about him. I see a lot of David Thomas in Josh Hill. For one thing, he's a lot bigger this year than last year. He doesn't look like a converted wide receiver anymore, he looks like a tight end. The physical resemblance is uncanny. Last night those catches he made looked a whole lot like Thomas. Act like he's going to block, slip out to the flat while nobody's looking and it's an easy first down. And from what I've seen of him blocking, it's pretty good. Especially when he can use his speed to get outside and block a corner or safety on an off-tackle run. I think Hill has made an impression on SP and we're going to see him getting a lot of snaps this year. He might catch 30-35 passes. I would not be surprised at all if Hill ended up having more of a role in the offense than whoever ends up as the #4 WR. |

It makes sense. Let's hope you are a seer.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Just my opinion, but I think if Hill ends up being more involved than our 4th WR, we're in trouble. I don't see that happening though. I still, to this day, have no clue where he came from or when we even signed him. I just know he popped up at the weirdest times last season and they tried to force it to him when he should have been the very last option. He consistently failed to come through. I'm not going to change my opinion on him until he does something meaningful.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
There's a reason Payton kept him last year. He has potential to be a good TE in this league.
|
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
I openly doubted him on the forum. Griffin as well. I'm warming up to both of them. The only player I'll forever doubt is Strief. Lol.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Ive always liked him. We are pretty deep there. I think we didn't utilize Watson enough as it is last year. He's another great threat.
|
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
That long gain vs rams was pretty sick to be fair, I had no idea Josh hill could move like that
He could contribute in a good way for us just like David Thomas did, although hill is a lot younger |
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Anytime a player is compared to David Thomas that's a good thing for that player because it means you're probably not great at anything but good at a whole lot of things and that will keep you around the league for a long time.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
A TE that actually blocks? NeauxFW...whodathunkit?

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Hill looks good. Nice to see another option
|
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
I hope he sees the field more this year so we get a real look at the kid. my only concerns with the TE position is the fact Watson is our only TE that can be called a blocker.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
If Saints go with Griffin as back up qb then have kilgore as 3rd qb on practice squad.this could allow saints to keep a 4th Te on 53 roster.

I've read some good things about Hamm and Jacobs though. They might be that 4th TE in lieu of that 5th RB or 6th WR or 9th OL etc... Paytons has surprisingly kept 4 TE's before so it wouldn't shock me. We could run a lot more 2-TE sets, or even 3 TE's considering Grahams ability to line up wide. Options are good. |
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Hill went to a small high school in a pretty small town just west of where I live (in the dry desolate part of the state with nothing but rock and sage brush). He attended Idaho State University. A small university in eastern Idaho.
The kid has potential. I've been keeping an eye on him. Its been cool to see him develop. |
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Looks like Hill up to about 255 on a 6-5 frame.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
Last year I thought he looked stiff when he was on the field. This year he looks fluid...........smooth even.

Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
I'd love to see formations with Jimmy split wide or in the slot and Watson or whoever our best blocking TE is. Even if he's a TE, he's one of the best if not the best WR in the league. I actually think he's a better WR than Calvin Johnson. For those who think that's crazy, remember he led the league in fade route receptions and receiving TDs. Plus he's way faster than Colston.

I have no problem gloating about it now, especially because of how venomous the anti-Hill crap was in the off-season. HE WAS AN UDFA ROOKIE!!!! Suck it Hill haters!!!!:broccoli: |
Re: Josh Hill, Secret Weapon
I'm wondering why we're not using two-tight end sets...
Since Drew seems to like lobbing the ball so much, give him another power forward on the field... right?!? |
