Champ Bailey needs to show New Orleans Saints something or end is near
White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. -- New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton relied on a philosophy from his most respected mentor when describing what Payton expected from veteran cornerback Champ Bailey on the heels of training camp.
"Bill Parcells used to say this and every once and a while I will reference Parcells," Payton said. "'With a player like Champ we don't need to see it every day, we just need to see it once in a while.' He used to say that and it made sense. "That's being smart with the conditioning test for instance. It is being smart with how we practice him. I have a pretty good vision for what I think he can do for us and I think that has been communicated and I think he is really anxious to do that." Champ Bailey has plenty of time to make an impact on the coaches. I doubt he's on the bubble.

We are not cutting Bailey. We'd keep him just to play in the playoffs. And he doesn't need pre-season. He might have a stubbed toe for all we know. When we signed him I thought great nickel back. Give 10-12 plays per game on passing downs and were putting a serious ballhawk with incredible hands and tremendous intelligence who will undoubtedly diagnose many plays before the ball is even snapped on the field. I hope he is healthy this year.
