Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
In the competition for carries in New Orleans, Pierre Thomas is falling behind Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson.
Thomas was the team’s leading rusher last year, with 147 carries for 549 yards, but the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Ingram and Robinson have moved ahead of Thomas, who took a pay cut to remain in New Orleans this offseason. In practice, Ingram and Robinson are splitting first-team reps while Thomas works with the second team. Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson | ProFootballTalk |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Thomas is an aging vet, and Payton mentioned he was going to be easier on the vets.
I'm a huge Ingram and Robinson fan, but PT is still the man until you are otherwise informed.:p |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
We need Thomas for the playoffs.

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
I have no problem with this. PT should at this stage in his carreer be a really good change of pace type of back letting the young studs plow the majority of the field. Ingram has been a late bloomer and thats all, Robinson(who I like a little better) was undrafted but has earned each carry will make a great tandam. With Payton saying he is going to run more( I've heard that one before) we should (barring injury) and the O-line doing their job be very stout at running the ball.Cadet needs to step it up in my opinion in every way.

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Less carries just means it helps prolong's his career.
We know what PT is capable of. |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
He'll be the third down back. Its fine. PT will still get snaps. He prob won't be used to pound the rock like he was used for earlier in his career. I doubt if anyone on this board trusts any other RB on a 3rd down pass or screen play more than they trust PT. Regardless off how Ingram or Khiry are running.
PT will have his moments too. He's still the most versatile back we have. |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
These guys will all get plenty of carries. PT still looked great 2/3rds of the way into last season before he got that chest injury. If he has "lost a step" he sure lost it fast.

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
I am not too sure I agree with Ingram and Robinson moving past PT as much as PT drifting back into a different more specialized role. As the years pile up on NFL players duty's change and you often see a veteran no longer playing special teams just to keep the mileage down.
We have Robinson and Ingram to pound the rock and take the abuse, lets play smart ball and use PT when he fits the situation... Like the Screen:) |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
I fully expected Ingram to be the one dropping on the list.
|
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Whatever role he plays is fine by me,I just want him to retire a Saint.

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
I honestly see them all getting about the same carries. PT is older but still a year or two from full on retirement mode. I swear, Ingram has one great PS game and now it's over for PT. That's it buddy, out to pasture.

Ingram has had more than 1 good game and he's including Khiry Robinson in his justification. Ingram's last 10 games, 6.35 YPC Robinson 2013 - 4.35 YPC Thomas 2013 - 3.7 YPC |
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Dam Danno good job with the stats. That one is pretty telling.
|
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
My point is he still has a big role to play. I would not be surprised if he ends up having the most APY at the end of the season. He is still the screen master.

The headline is a joke.
Is this the same PT that Brees just called the best all-around back in the league? I think I'll go with Brees and call the little layoff preventative |

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Yep, the headline was a good setup. It made it sound like he was on thin ice and it was just about to crack. The ground is still firm and he will likely have great season. But who is going to read that article?

Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Depth chart schmeptchart. It doesn't matter with the Saints RBs. Each guy fills a role and will get his carries.
|
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
PT is a great role player and insurance policy if Ingram or Robinson goes down. But, Ingram and Robinson should get 80-85 percent of the snaps.
|
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
I'd guess by the end of he season, PT still has more touches and yards than Ingram or Robinson.
|
Re: Pierre Thomas falling behind Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson
Ingram and Robinson moving past PT NO WAY ?????
LMAO now this is a huge surprise. come on were does your third down back fall in SP offense? third. |

I just don't want it to be obvious when PT comes n it's a screen .... Kinda like with sproles when he came in the game it was a pass most of the time...

It won't because PT can also run the ball as well as catch. PT will get about 5 carries a game to keep the defense honest. I say Ingram and Khiry will split the other 25-30 carries. |
