PFF: Saints have NFL’s top offense

The New Orleans Saints have the NFL’s best offensive roster, according to Pro Football Focus. The scouting service came up with a formula Insider based on grades for every individual offensive player (requires Insider access).

As usual, quarterback Drew Brees carried the Saints to victory, since the Saints’ quarterback situation ranked as the third best in the league. Tight end Jimmy Graham didn't hurt, either.

The Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots rounded out the top five.

Oh joy, another power ranking.

This time disguised as analytically data driven.

Thank god we only have 19 more weeks of power rankings to go.

Waiting for Madden to nail it down. They are fairly accurate in terms of what it has the potential to achieve. I think the Saints will be way up there in their system.

You guys were in the top 5 last year and now you have added a running game too. i do find it odd as talented as Jimmy Graham is i the passing game, it's embarrassing to see a man of his size such a puss when it comes to blocking. I don't see how that is a stretch.

Mike Alstott wasn't a wuss and he couldn't block either. Lorenzo Neal couldn't run the ball. Strengths and weaknesses...

We basically need the individual parts to add up a little better than they did last year, but there really isn't a weakness on paper. Last year we had issues at left tackle and WR but those appear to be mostly fixed. I don't think any other team presents the complete package on offense the Saints do, based on depth and the ability to move the ball a bunch of different ways with a bunch of different players. But we'll see how it goes.

He's not a "puss," as you say. If you watch the way he runs with the ball after the catch he's a very physical and aggressive player. His blocking issues are technique, remember the kid had almost no football experience before the NFL. And the fact he had a crap foot for most of last season. In 2012 his blocking was actually good and even in 2013 his run blocking graded out better than roughly 1/2 the starting TE's in the league.

If being a "puss"; gets you the most receiving yards for TE's and thirteenth among all players receiving with a league leading sixteen touchdowns; then so be it

His naivety is understood when it comes to Graham. There is no excuse for the handful of anti-Graham members on this site.

As I mentioned in another thread, like bird dogs in a Mexican standoff.

I read on another site, complaining about Jimmy Graham's blocking is like complaining about Kate Upton's cooking.

Unfortunately I agree with everything Seattlefan says. Their fans are obviously smarter than Falcon fans. Jimmy can't block and rarely runs over DBs who he often outweighs by 60+lbs. He should watch some film on Mike Ditka or Jeremy Shockey. Shockey couldn't block either but he was hell on DBs.

Perhaps you might wish to start wearing blue and that crappy green, then. Shockey couldn't hold Graham's jock.

Thems fightin words homie! I hate Seattle with a passion. That beast-mode run makes me physically ill every time I see it. Plus I think Richard Sherman is an overrated loudmouth and I can't wait for Cooks to shut him up in the playoffs. And Pete Carol is an arrogant, smug politician. I never even thought Shockey was good. Jimmy is perhaps NFL MVP. But Shockey did run over corner backs when he got the chance.

I guess I'm in the minority. The Beastmode run was a great run. We were going to get knocked out of the playoffs the following week anyway. That 2010 team was too injured to win a SB.

I don't hate Seattle either. Solid team. Although Sherman is a bit annoying (I'd still take him over TO any day). I hope we meet up in the playoffs with both teams at full strength. We were not well prepared for the regular season game, but we were for the playoff game. Both coaching staffs are quick studies.

I'm thinking you're messing with me huh? Of course it was a good run. One of the best I've ever seen if not the best. But it put us out the playoffs. And why would we have got beat the following week? With Drew at QB we have a chance every week period! And if you're offering me TO or Sherman in their prime, TO all day. TO was best or 2nd best WR in the NFL to Randy Moss and most said TO was better. Sherman isn't one of the top 5 best corners in the NFL. Heck he's not the best DB on his own team. He's a solid corner on a great defense. Yes Pete Carol is a good coach but A. He's from USC and B. He's from USC. Hate him. Finally heck yes I hope we meet in the playoffs. My dream is a Saints victory with 200yds rushing and Cooks beating Sherman deep at least twice. Papa Voodoo, you were messin with me right?

LOL, how many times have we seen Jimmy run over a DB in the open field, or drag a couple of them into the end zone? I don't know what games you've been watching but they're not Saints games.

Also, Shockey was one of the very best blocking tight ends in the NFL. You saying Shockey can't block is like saying Drew Brees can't throw.

@billyt81, no I wasn't messing with you. Competition gets stronger each week in the playoffs and the 2010 team didn't have the juice (at least from what I saw). The 2011 team did. That SF loss stung bad, but it was a great game.

As far as the TO and Sherm, I was only referring to them being annoying...not as players. I'll take your dream victory any day :)

I have no particular hate for the Seahawks either. Some of their fans are certainly obnoxious and over-the-top but they are a really good team and put together on a lot of the same principles as the Saints (and Patriots before them).

Re: PFF: Saints have NFL’s top offense

Jimmy has a long stride, that is not a good base for blocking. It is however a good base for 16 TD's, 86 receptions, and 1200+ yards in a season where he was playing injured.

It has nothing to do with heart, it has everything to do with design. Or to Seahawks12th , heart is as relevant to Jimmy Graham's blocking as it is Perussy Harvin dressing out.

I can only comment on games that I saw. "Puss" was too harsh and I wasn't trying to create controversy, only trying to say it isn't one of his strong suits. If I were a Saints fan I would be a little frustrated. Obviously many saints fans agree with this but If I am wrong, I'm wrong. My original point was to say you guys are pretty stacked offensively and I can see why you would be ranked number 1.

My observations is that Jimmy Graham lets his bravado get in the way of common sense. He is so big and strong he can just let his play do the talking. He gets into spats with other players and some feed off of that but in his case, it seems to distract him. I have seen him run hard and be extremely physical and run over people. I think Saints fans just want to see him do it with more consistency especially against elite DB's. Maybe this is the year!!!

I don't think the Saints are on Percy Harvin's Christmas list this year. Yeah, you guys are on the naughty list. :D

PapaVoodoo I can't relate to your belief that we couldn't have won the next week had we beaten the Seahawks. We would've played the Bears and then the Packers. Also I believe both of these were better matchups for us than Seattle. I definetely would've liked our chances against GreenBay who was basically a mirror image of us that year. I say if we'd have gotten past Seattle, 50/50 Saints or Packers hoist the trophy.

Of course they're good. And recently they've had our number and as a SAINTS FAN I hate em for that and pretty much only that. First of all, Russell Wilson is the nicest guy ever and constantly vocalizes his respect for and desire to emulate Brees. Hard to hate but I find a way. I mean does anyone hate the Browns, Jags or Raiders? No cuz they're awful. Why bother.

I never thought Shockey was a great blocker and I heard that opinion restated often by announcers and it was rumored to be the Giants opinion too which is why they let him go. I also disagree that Jimmy has run over a lot of cornerbacks. I have seen him dragging guys for extra yardage but rarely have I seen him break a tackle and keep running. I think JG is the best pass catcher in the league and possibly an NFL MVP. These are just the areas I'd love to see him improve.

So he drags them or dodges them but you want to see him let them wrap and then break the tackle? (Head scratcher)

If you'd like you can come watch the games at my home, we seem to be watching different games.

Not a whole lot of tackle breaking opportunity when he is performing Cirque de Soleil just to get his hands on the ball or when everyone is going for his legs.
